Is there a chunk missing out of the connector there?

You talking about on the engine connection? Since the hose has a slight angle, it would pull on the other side when installing. I probably didn't catch that part to make sure it was perfectly flat. It shouldn't matter as the lip is about an inch down and as long as that's sealed it will hold. If you're talking about underneath the clamp towards the hose (going away from the engine), I didn't take the hose sticker off. Last time I attempted to do that on a napa hose it left the sticky residue so I decided to leave it on this time. Then applying 1500W of heat from the heat gun burned the sticker. So I probably should have applied some heat to the sticker before installing and it would have come right off.

i was talking about the aluminum piece the hose is connected to, it looks like there is a chunk missing in the picture... where the brown spot is,

Nice catch! I took a look at it... it seems to be some sticky stuff like gum or something. I hope there isn't a pinhole or something in the aluminum. I took some goo gone and steel brush to it... doesn't want to come off:
