is the o4 full time all wheel drive? for a daily driver personally id prefer being able to shift into 4 wheel drive only when needed...possibly less wear & tear, maybe a little better mileage?

considering both have a 4.7 , if mods for power are in your plans the 08s gonna be stronger & power mod options are limited on the earlier ones since apparently HO cams are hard to find.

so,even though im not crazy about the 08 front end style, that 300 hp on tap (before mods) would be very nice, especially if youre gonna tow or haul much.

id lean towards the 08 imo.

I like the 04 styling better but the 08 makes 302 hp - stock.

About to drop the hammer on a Dakota and was hoping for some insight. Between an 04' and an 08' what would you choose?

Here is what I know (which isn't much except both have clean records and they cost basically the same.)

2004 QC Dakota SLT
4.7L V8
AWD / 4x4 (no idea about gearing or limited slip yet)
49k miles
All leather / Gray exterior
Tow package

Personally love this is AWD and prefer this Gens look over newer. Also like that is has less miles.

2008 QC Dakota SLT
Flex fuel 4.7L V8
2wd / 4x4 (limited slip but no idea what gearing)
57k miles
All leather / Black pearl
Tow package

Only thing selling me on this is the newer 300hp 4.7 with flex fuel and the limited slip. Not crazy about the newer style.

Any feed back would be great. I loved my 98' Durango and have been itchin for a dodge again. The truck will be used for towing / daily commuter / snow & Mud in the winters.
Are they both automatics? If one is a stick I would choose that as it will definately be more reliable down the road. The newer 4.7 seems to be more reliable despite the power boost. Just look at the million 99 to 04 4.7ltrs with blown head gaskets and other engine problems. The old 3.9 and 5.2 LA engines were much better. Cheaper to mod and easily surpassed 200000 miles without significant if any engine repair. Between the two I would get the 08 and try to make it look better. Better yet save some cash and try to get an older dakota with a 5.2ltr 318, a manual, and in excellent shape. Would have tons of power, potential, cheap parts, and run frickin forever.

i would actually go for the 2004 dakota than the 2008 dakota due to the fuel milege, even with 4.7 L V8. I put a K and N air filter and it seem to get the fuel milege to little over 15 mpg. the 2004 model will get you just about 400 miles a tank, whereas the 2008 model will get just under 15 mpg with an estimate 350 to 375 miles on a tank of gas.
