Default 2007 Dakota rear end bottoming out

New member here. Just bought a 2007 4 door dakota that only has about 60000 miles doesnt look like anything has ever been in the bed. never used for towing. The rear suspension on the right rear bottoms out on small bumps. I tried searching the site, no luck. Anyone ever hear of this
Thanks
Nick

Check the shock and the spring pack to make sure nothing is busted.

What makes you think its "bottoming out"? I find this incredibly hard to believe with out you stating other severely obvious problems while driving. I would take a peek at your shock on the right side, as well as the sway bar end links (if your truck came with a rear sway bar). Next, I would stand on the bumper and jump up and down to see if you can replicate the problem.

I have done just that got on the bumper and jumped up and down. I weight about 180 when I jump on the right side there is a definate quick stop and feels like the suspesion is bottoming out, Left side I cant get it to do it. I have never had a truck do this. I have owned fords, dodges, chevy datsun, small and large never seen this. people have mentioned shock, why would a shock do this.unless the shock was frozen up before it hits the total range of the suspension
Thanks for all your input. This suspension feels very soft for a truck.

You may have a shock with an issue on the right side, such as a bent shaft or a bar seal. it could also have bad valving and is stopping before the end of its designed travel. disconnect the shock on the right side (1 bolt) and see if the problem persists if it doesnt then replace the shock if the problem is still present then have a friend bounce the bumper while you watch the suspension cycle and try to identify the problem.

My money is on a bad shock absorber.

You really need to get underneath and have a look at it. Could be something real simple. It is not normal for this truck or any truck. There is obviously something mechanically wrong and the first step to any successful troubleshooting is to look at the suspect area for anything amiss.

Although the rear suspension is very "light weight", the response should be the same on both sides - I would be looking for something like a broken shock mount (or missing shock could also do that) or a broken leaf in the spring pack.

I would look at the shocks and also take a very close look at the sway bar. i took the rear end out of my truck last night to replace it and I can see that if the bushings on the sway bar were bad it could cause some binding.
