Unhappy Sad Sad Night

Friday, May 23, was a sad my Dakota friends. I haven't told anyone about this accident, other than my buddy that was in with me, my girlfriend, my parents. None of my friends know right now. My buddy and I were driving around southern Michigan, just driving down dirt roads, for about 5 hours, we got some pizza at a mom and pop pizza place, on our way back, going 30MPH going North on US-24 Telegraph Rd, him and I are laughing and talking, the light is yellow flashing for me, red for West and East, I look over at him, he looks at me and goes "WHOA WHOA WHOA" I instantly slammed on the brakes, looked and saw head lights coming at me on my driver side, then blackness. Then I remember spinning around, I feel like 1 1/2 times, but he says 180 degrees, we flew backwards up a curb. I remember seeing my buddy secure next to me as we were spinning, then I heard **** just start to fall, engine still running, so I threw it in park and turned it off, sounds like my trans is shot, put it in park and just heard grinding like crazy, turned it off. We took our belts off, and I started to freak out, I couldn't open my door, he jumps out and tells me to go out passenger side. If I didn't hit the brakes, I'm sure we would of flipped, he was in a 25MPH zone, had to be going at least 40, so glad that my rear door and bed was hit. My driveshaft fell right out of the trans, rear end all bent up, and my whole exhaust from headers back fell off, wasn't even rusty. ALL I HAVE TO say is, I felt very very very safe in this truck. No air bags went off. He kid was probably 23-24, said not to call the cops, we could smell alcohol, he said he had 6-7 beers 8 hours ago, who drinks at 3pm? So he got arrested for DUI. He told me not to call the cops, he would pay for everything, he swore. "Do you want my information?" I'm not playing that game, this is my truck, it's how to I get to work so I can make money, so I took pictures of his plate just in case he left. He said he thought he had a green light, this was at 11:30-11:38pm, his light was flashing RED and mine was Yellow. At first, when the truck stopped spinning, all I could think was looking up at the lights and thinking, **** I ran the red light. So, don't drink and drive guys, even if it's down the road, this kids life is ruined. My truck is totaled, and don't know what I'm going to do for a vehicle now, don't know what the insurance company is going to due, I have a loan on it still. He drove like a 03 Ext Cab Chevy Silverado 1500. I have a video of it getting towed, but I was cussing up a storm and don't want to show that to anyone really, but can you blame me? Sorry for blurry pictures, I was shaking.

Wow, sorry to hear about it, but glad that you and your friend were well protected by the Dak. There's never a reason to not call the police, usually the person suggesting it doesn't have insurance, then you're **** out of luck.

Or drunk.

I was rearended at a light by a Continental Coffee van, the driver got out and begged us to not call the po-po. Cops called, cops came, his van was impounded and towed and he was taken away in handcuffs. Actually couldn't walk a straight line or touch his nose. . .

Totaled my Toyota truck, insurance paid off and let me keep it and I had the frame fixed and repaired the rest myself.

I was subpoena'd to testify at his trial, even paid a little fee. Told the truth with no embellishments and he was convicted. Continental Coffee, of course, made him employee of the month (to go!) And I think his pretty girlfriend moved on. (She looked pretty unhappy in the courtroom.) Pretty harsh, but I hope he learned his lesson.

Yeah, two years ago, a Friday night, when it was snowing out, guy leaving a local bar by our house, going about 70, down Telegraph, missed us by about 3 inches and flew up a curb, took out a light pole and drove off.

People are stupid. Glad you made it out okay.

If someone drunk hit me, Id make sure they didnt leave the scene. By any means necessary. Ive been a victim of hit and run, and I learned. One time was it for me, and it WONT happen again

Wow...sorry to hear about the accident, and that your truck is messed up. Thankfully you and your buddy are ok. Dodge does make a safe vehicle that's for sure!

I took pictures of his plates multiple times to make sure he didn't run off, his truck is only damaged in front, but still drivable.
