Depends on individual state laws. A lot put the sandwiched car at fault too because if they had left enough room between them and the car ahead they wouldn't have hit the car ahead.
if you are pushed into the car in front it means you didn't leave enough space per the law (basically if you can't see where the back tires on the car in front of you hits the ground you are considered too close in most states)
