Default Just grenaded my t-case

I've spent the last few days worrying about half shafts that had started clicking and wouldn't you know it. The t-case exploded while going 80 on the freeway. Murphy's law I guess
I have a 2005 Dakota Laramie with the AWD transfer case. I was wondering if anyone knew if I could replace it with a standard 4WD case?

That question has been brought up numerous times, and there never seems to be an actual swap confirmed. Some say you can simply swap from Full time 4WD case to a Part time 4WD case, and some say you also need to have the computer flashed by the dealer.

Hopefully someone can confirm if it is a simply hardware swap or not.

not sure how the 244 awd works...some models run in 2wd until wheel slip is detected and them power a clutch to transfer power to the front axles. if this is the case, i don't think i'd make the change. If it was a true awd with a ptu i would change it.
