Default re-mufflered

so after running with half of the factory exhaust rmoved, the check engine light came on. made an appointment at the dealer, and put the exhaust back on. 2days later the light goes off.well see what the tech at the DS says about engine lights and exhaust mods. I will post the engine light cause also. Anyone have trouble w/ mods and engine light. I know that removing one's exhaust isa dubious mod, at best, but It makes me curious. Will an expensive aftermarket item produce similar results? I want an exhaust, intake, and chip, but I don't want a truck w an engine light on.

i hope you didnt pay money to put on a stock exhaust.... *shakes head* listen when i was customizing mine i was riving around for 3 days with nothing but headers and a catalytic converter.... no engine light. when i put on my k&n it was on for a day..then i suppose the ecu learned it and took it into account because it went away. the only other time mine has been on is when i forget to plug in the sensor on the intake tube or something. you won't have problems doing aftermarket stuff...and if you do (and by problems i mean just an engine light being on) than jsut reset the ecu or give it time. either way it's worth it... you shouldnt roll around stock because your afraid of a light.

thanks for the reply. BTW I didn't pay to take it off or put it back on. Only took me 20 min and one clamp. The only thing that worries me is having to undo all the mods before warranty work. I only did my exhaust that way because it is so easy to "fix" it. As for rolling around stock? I think not. How do you reset an ecu? I've heard turn it on/off four times; diconnect batt; i'd like to know for sure

Disconnect the battery for 10 minutes or so.

egr valve. Emmissions on the manifold. Anybody know, in detail, what and how this works? Would decreased backpressure (no muffler) affect it? The dealer is replacing it on mon. I didn't think to ask if they knew, for sure, if the valve was broken, or not.

Basically, it just recirculates some of the exhaust gas back to the intake manifold usually from the exhaust manifold. It serves two purposes; 1) is to burn the recirculated exhaust gas more completely and 2) it cools the temperature of combustion inside the cylinder.

No, taking the muffler off will not damage the EGR valve but it willlimit theexhaust gasthat canbe recirculated, not enough to damage anything though.

i'm thinking the decrease in backpressure, and therefore, recirrculation, triggered the sensor/engine light. I took a week for that to happen. I would think that the ecu would probably adjust to that, because the light went off.

Yes the computer takes all of the sensorreadings and determins how much exhaust needs to be recirculated. If that code came up and the dealer is going to replace the EGR valve then they must have tested it and it failed. Removing the muffler would not make the EGR valve fail!If they didn't test it and are just throwing parts atthe truckbecause the scanner said it was the EGR valve then you need to find a new dealership.
