??63 or 77??
So I'm finally going to get a CAI, the qeustion I have now is should I go with the 63 series or the 77 series? Whats the main difference...price is not an issue because I can get them both for the same price.
The difference is that the 63 series uses a black plastic tube while the 77 series uses the chrome tube. Go with the 63, slightly more HP, not much but more none the less. The 77 series is more for show trucks, it's more of a look think with all the chrome. The 63 series will pass slightly colder air to the engine, hence more performance.
I would get the 63 because it supposedly has better performance and I also think it looks better. One thing you have to keep in mind though is that the 63 is NOT carb legal and the 77 is. If you get pulled over and getinspected and the intake doesn't have the "carb certificate" on it they can fine you for it. They don't do that here and that's why I would get the 63, I just don't know how your state is.
For the longest time I always said the plastic 63 series was the best choice, black durable plastic that looked like it belonged under the hood with the rest of the stock stuff, durable, you can drop a wrench on it without having to worry about scratching a shinny finish, blah blah.
That all changed for me after i bought it. The 63s tube seemed cheap, uneven where it was molded together, and kinda ugly lol. The real problem was that the plastic tube is rather thick, so the gromet that came with it for my sensor wasnt deep enough to stay in with the IAT sensor in it. Instead it kept flippin in or out. The grommet is the same part for the 77 and 63, and because the 77s metal finish is thinner, it fits like a glove. Ive installed a 77 series on a 05 mustang as well, and I would never buy the 63 series again. most all companies use metal intake tubes and Ive read in many tuner mags how the materials used are truely irellivant and heat soak really isnt an issue in the moving air. Its your choice, but I am going to vote the 77 series. I have a 63 series now, and regret it.

I think you are all over looking the Big Diff on the 77 VS 63.
The 63 has the black insulation/heat retardent which is better, not to mention better HP as stated, most people don't go w/ this because they don't care for the looks....I'll go w/ proformance any day!

Actually when driving the engine compartment is not much warmer than the outside air due to airflow. I don't think the plastic vs. metal makes a difference under real driving conditions. Keep in mind that the vehicle is not moving during a dyno run which can cause heat soak, giving the plastic an advantage that won't really make a difference in normal driving.
