Future dakota Diesel
Just wanted to stir up some thoughts on the 08 and future model dakotas. I do like the 08 facelift. The one thing that attracted me to the dakota was its bold styling. Whether you like it or not the truck does not look like anything else on the road. Sure there are always improvements that can be made but overall the Dakota in my opinion is the best midsize truck out there and I was a diehard chevy guy but the colorado is junk.
I hear rumors of a 4.2L V6 diesel possibly going in the dakota in 2010. Does anyone have more info on this? If they do put a good performing diesel in the dakota I would trade in my 05 on the spot. I just talked to a guy who drives a dodge sprinter van and gets 24 miles per gallon with the diesel in that van. That would be nice. I average 13.5 mpg in all city driving which is a littlebetter than my 2000 chevy silverado that I traded for the Dakota.
So lets see some good comments on this

I would definitely make a switch to a diesel, beter gas mileage, and if Dodge plays their cards right, a heck of a lot more towing power. With the way gas prices are going, us who drive trucks need something that gets better mileage. A Diesel Dakota gets 2 thumbs up from me!
That would be cool. If they're getting 24mpg out of a Sprint they should be able get 30 out of Dak. The Sprint has the aerodynamics of a cinder block. Boy every time I go to the pump lately the price hasjumped a nickle. DC should be all over this, another big jump they want be able to give the gas engine trucks away. The only half ton and mid size diesel trucks available, sounds to easy.
Man, if they did this, I'd have to give some serious thought to trading in on a diesel...just for the extra towing power. The 4.7 is nice, but a diesel in a midsize would be awesome. Getting 24 mpg or more would be great, too.

it would be sweet if they put a diesel in a dak, I would buy one right away.
