Cat Back exhaust was short
I rarely post and mostly lurk around here, but on monday I had got my magnaflow cat back system installed at my local shop and they called and said they are about 6 inches short, and one of the hangers they are going to have to relocate and weld up and asked me if it was okay to do this. Well they had my old system a mess and I told them to go ahead because I had little options. While they finished I called magnaflow and talked to a technical rep. and he asked me what system and truck and all that nonsense because he thought I bought the wrong one, well come to find out he said that because my truck is an 06 sometimes Dodge changes things here and there and it's different than the 05 truck that they engineered the system for. I told him about how now I'm going to have a 6 inch pipe that is going to rott, and the rest will stay and I'm worried about warranty but he said their system is still warrantied and I shouldn't worry because he gets calls like this all the time. I live in Central/Northern NY where getting 3 feet a snow in 5 hours is about normal, and I'm considering at the end of summer buying a piece of stainless pipe to have fit in to that spot, what I'm asking is if I'm going to be alright and has anyone else experienced this? Thanks
When I ordered a system for a different truck, I had the same problem, but the kit came with an extender pipe. About half a foot. Not sure why, because I didnt need it, but it sounds like you could use it. If you get a stainless steel extension welded into the front of your kit, you shouldnt have to worry about rotting.. My friend had alot of fabrication done on his 05 mustang kit from magnaflow, and its holding up great. If they can fab an extender that doesnt need to be welded onto the kit, thats even better. Its not a huge deal and cheap. Your gonna make it.
Yeah that was my exact response when they told me, but let me know if yours is fine when you get it installed because when I talked to the magnaflow rep., I asked him if the muffler shop was just cob jobing mine but he said no it's been known to happen. Hopefully your alright with yours. The good news is that it sounds amazing.
Thats great... yeah I'm hoping mine doesn't sound too loud... I'm really just looking for performance... dont' really want it loud or anything.
I have the 4.7 and from what it was stock, you certainly hear it but it's fine at cruising speeds. It sounds perfect to me, theres no droning in the cab and when you get on it, you know it's there.
When I got the Magnaflow kit for my '05 Dakota, we found that all the hangers were in the wrong location. My '05 Dakota is an early production unit and we found that the Magnaflow kit for the '04 Dakota was correct for my '05. So.... Dodge had leftover parts from '04 that theyinstalled on my '05 is my guess. A bit aggravating.
BTW, mine is 4.7L.
