Computer Help
ok, im in the library, i tried to boot it twice this morning and it stoped both times...tried a 3rd time and it went and loaded all my crap like normal. then i tried to put something in my cd/dvd drive and it didnt work, so i tried loading it via My Computer and it didnt even read that drive, i also noticed other drives missing in My Computer. I ran diognistics via System Tools and my floppy drive and cd/dvd drive failed the tests...tried to search for anything in relation to them via Search under the Start button...tried to type in a search and thats when i realized my keyboard wasnt workin...its wireless so i tried the built-in keyboard, still nothing....i dont know if i said this before or not, but i tried to restore the computer to an earlier point in time. i restored it to early yesterday when nothing was wrong...it had to restart and so i went to restart, it didnt load completely so i manually shut it down, same thing happend again 2 more times, and on the 4th try it finally loaded and completed the restoration. no problems solved
im going to OKC (oklahoma city/closer than tulsa, but not by much) tonight to have them run their diognistics....the guy said it sounds like the motherboard went bad. he said it could take 2 weeks to get it in for my laptop. if possible, id like for them to order the part, but send the part to the best buy in owasso (suburb of tulsa) which is closer to my home, bc i will be out of school by the time the damn part gets in...like i said earlier, this could not have come at a worse time considering i have huge essays due worth 20-25% of my overall grade in 2 classes. next time i am able to go in my room to get on the laptop, i am hoping my usb drives work so i can upload the essay info i need on that. god i hope they work. and yes, computer is just barely less than a year old, so it is under Manufacturers warrenty. i will try to get model info when i get back to my room, that wont be till 330ish though[:@]

If you still have the owners manual you could look up what key you need to hit during startup to enter the bios (It's normally del or one of the F keys but I have a Toshiba too and it's something really weird for mine). If you can get into the bios try setting the cdrom to first boot device then start up the laptop with the windows cd in it. If it boots to the windows installer you'll know the CD drive is working and it's probably not the mobo. I don't really think it will but it might be worth a shot.
Usually on laptops I've seen F2 as the bios key to hit. My Toshiba uses F2, so try that to enter the bios. Also, on computers like Dell, if you hit the F12 key it will display a list of drives to boot to, and you can select one. Enter your Windows cd/recovery cd in the drive, and see if you can get to a boot menu, if it sees the CD drive, try to boot to it and see if it comes up with the windows setup.
im not a computer science major but luckily i live on the computer science floor. some of them are on IT and they took it down to their lab to save me a trip to OKC.....they said if its a software issue, they can mostlikely fix it...if its hardware, ill have to go to best buy since its under warrenty...the 3 that are workin on it said it does sound like its my motherboard, but figured they would run their diognostics before i went to best buy, they said they wouldnt trust anyone there...so i figure, i guess my comp is in good hands....atleast i will know for sure what the problem is later tonight or early tomorrow depending on how busy they get.
No but if its a software problem it might help...but I seriously doubt it is...although I have seen some really strange things happen with computers at my job.
