3" body lift
Why does nobody like body lifts? I just bought mine and the comment of the truck handles differently makes me a little nervous. I bought both the leveling kit and the body kit. I know my buddy has had a body kit on his 99 Silverado for bout 6 years now and has no complaints. My big this is that I dont see how a Dakota/Raider V8 is so much lower to the ground than my 4 cylinder Colorado was....Thats just retarded. How many people have the body lifts and dont like them? And if thats the case why dont they just remove them and sell them? THANKS FOR MAKE ME NERVOUS PRO4X4
body lifts are just not for everyone ,if its looks your after you got it. I had never had any major issues with body lifts they are mosty found in conjunction with a suspension system but there is no reason you cant just run the body lift. I would go with a polyurathane kit (daystar, energy makes emI think)it is a little softer and the kits are generally milder 1 or 2 inch so the gaps are less noticable. your shocksand ball joints might get beat up from the over extension look into longer ones if this becomes a problem.otherwise you will not notice a diff. Lets see some pics
I've never driven a body lift, but I think they look a tad cheesy, because of the exposed frame rail (it's already kinda low), and the gap over the back tire, between the frame and the bed. maybe I'm crazy. I dont like the look of the standard "drop bracket" ifs lifts either. The only thing giving any actual grnd clearance is the larger tires.
I know somepeople may not like the look, but this guys truck looks NICE: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2366753I think the step bars kinda hide the frame a little more. I'm glad I hae some on mine, hopefully it will look just as good!
I thought it would be interesting to let everyone know that I spoke to Performance Accessories, and the guy there actually knew what he was talking about. He says for the 6-spd manual there is a good chance the kit will work out of the box. They never got a 6-spd to prototype and this is why it says auto transmission only on the site. He said a notch or two may need to be made in the floor board in case the angle is a little off when trying to shift into say 2nd, 4th. Of course he said the shifter would appear and be 3" shorter.
What he didnt know is if our shifter is cast iron or not. I guess that you cannot easily weld an extension onto cast iron? I am not a metal guy so I dont know.
My question for you guys is; what is our standard shifter made of? And, whoever has had the cup holde rshift boot console off, how much extra play does the shifter seem to have?
Finally, and I may make a sepereate thread for this ?; Is there a company that makes extenders for shifters, to extend the TOP part of the shifter, by the ball?

Sorry man but I talked to a guy I work with who has friends who have done body lifts and they all said they didn't like them. Only one guy did and thats because he made his own kit. He bought Ice hockey pucks and drilled a hole in the center and used them for his body lift. I like the way the lift looks on trucks I have seen but I don't like the idea of the body being off the frame like that. I'm not trying to discorage anyone from a body lift just pointing out some factors to consider. I got an estimate on a body lift and installation. The 3 inch body lift kit is $430 and to install it is $880. So again don't let my coments stop you just do your homework before doing any mod to your truck.
Well I guess if your the type of guy who will be ok with hockey pucks between his frame and his body, he'd be content with about anything. lol. Some guy on the second gen boards just finished a body lift and it looks good. I really want to order one of these but I got the stick shift. Like I posted earlier its sort of buy at your own risk because they only built the kit around an auto. But, I think it can be done. I just dont want to pay to have it done lol. Soooo I need to get with someone for a weekend to install this thing If I order it. Beer and lunch on me lol.
Hey monkeywrench I just got mine and when i get back home at the end of this month ill let you know how hard it is to do. The guy who sold me mine said it was done by him in 1 day, 10 hours. and depending on where you live ill go and help.
