Thanks for the advice RP Racing940. You make 100% perfect sense. I want a sport bike bad and I'm currently learning on my dad's 86 Honda Shadow VT1100. It's a bigger, heavier bike with more power so I thought maybe I could get away with it. I didn't mention that in my previous posts, and I don't know why. But I'm assuming comparing cruisers and sport bikes is like apples and oranges.

The SV-650 was actually the bike I was going to buy originally until I saw the Katana 600 sitting next to it on the showroom floor. I fell in love immediately!
And I agree with RP Racing - that gixxer 750 is raw power and will probably dump you if you haven't ridden for a good few years already...
I grew up on dirt bikes, mopeds, and a Rebel 450, and even my heavy Katana 600 gave me a lot to learn.
Plus, not sure about the 750, but I know on most 1000cc bikes, in every gear through 3rd, the more u turn that throttle the more the tendency of front end coming off the ground, without popping the clutch
Even the new 600's are capable of lofting the front in 2nd by throttle alone. They are getting that crazy. A new 2007 Yamaha R6 compared to a 1990 GSXR1100 is mind boggling.

R6 133hp, 357lbs dry. 53.4" wheelbase
90 Gix1100 143hp, 462 dry. 57.7" wheelbase

Heres a 92 gsxr600 (first year made)just to really scare ya... 106hp, 459lbs dry. 56.7" wheelbase

All new 600 supersports are so close together in numbers is silly. And to think the new 1000's are as small as 600s in size but with40-50+ more HP and maybe 10-15lbs more.

Hell I;ve been riding sportbikes since 93, racing since 99 and I still dont have an inkling to get a liter bike. Last R1 I rode scared the bejeebees out of me. To wheelie happy and the tire kept spinning. I should mention that the guy who holds thetrack record here (1:07 on a R1) gets down to1:08's with his R6.

Nothing wrong with a VT1100. Power comes on differently than sportbikes. Also aint gonna backflip if you did something stupid by accident like redlining and dumping the clutch. (Yes I seen anewbie do that. Wasnt pretty. Rider OK, bike messed up)
