Default Sport Bikes

Anybody into sport bikes on this forum. If so, what do you have? I'm trying to decide between 3 bikes. Honda CBR600RR, Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R and Suzuki GSX-R750.

I am also thinking about getting one...I dunno. I have a Supermoto which is a thrill to ride...wheelies, stoppies, backing it in hopping curbs..pissing off cops...but it sux on the highway.

I say if you want a bike to go really fast on the highway get a SuperSport, if you want something to have more fun in town and some highway look at a supermoto. Cheaper insurance, quicker than the Supersports in the twisties....take one for a test drive.

play bike is a honda cr 250 - sport bike is a gsxr 1000, scares the hell out of me.

If I was getting a bike I'd get one of the last Ninja 636s...i love the syling on those bikes

First bike? If so, then none of them. Theres a reason that they put "For experienced riders only" under ads for them.

If you already ride, then pick the one that trips your trigger.

BTW why teh gsxr750 when you have 2 other 600's listed? The GSXR600 is basically the same bike but with a 600 motor.

Yes, first bike. I know, I tend to want to go overboard. What do you recommend for a first bike? As far as the GSX-R 750 goes, I've just been reading up on bikes and apparently it's the best all-around sport bike int he world.

my first bike, which I sold last year, was a 2000 Suzuki Katana 600, which was an awesome bike for me. It's a "hybrid" bike, which is half sport-half cruiser, all sport looking though. It's about 100lbs heavier then other 600cc bikes, giving it much better handling, especially since I weighed btw 140-150 during the time I had the bike.

From your choices, I would get the gixxer750, just for the raw power alone. The Suzuki motors are great, but they are loud. And the 750 is an animal. Superdak says he's got gixxer1000, which I can only imagine is INSANE!! but I love that bike, possibly my favortie.

The Honda cbr6 is almost everyone's beginner bike, great bike for the price, good power, and Honda's reputation behind it. They probably have one of the best sport bike motors out today.

The Ninja-6 is also a good choice, good motor, good power. If it were a choice between the CBR and Ninja, I would look at the headlight config. on the bike and see what style you like better and go with that, otherwise the bikes are pretty close.

If you "NEED" a sportbike look, Kawasaki's new Ninja 650R ( www.kawasaki.com) is a good bike. Its a twin so even though it displaces more than a 600 4 cyl, its less powerful, has the 'look', easier to ride, more comfortable, better mileage and may be cheaper on insurance and is $6400 new. Its a lightweight class bike.

Suzuki's SV650 ( www.suzukicycles.com )is considered the best lightweight (been around in 99. Ninja 650Rnew last year). Comes in 2 versions. a naked version (no front faring around the light, more upright bars) and the SV650S (has a upper fairing and clipon bars which are more race orientated). Bot SV version dont have lower fairings but you can buy a lower fairing aftermarket for the SV650S. $6000 and $6500 for the SV650 and SV650S respectively.

SV's are very popular with the racing community. THey DOMINATE lightweight class racing here. We have a few SV racers who beat up on 600 inline 4 sportbikes regularly.

Even though they both are around 70hp they still can get you in some trouble. If I was to chose betweenthe 2, I'd take the SV since its a Vtwin. THe 650R is a parallel twin (nothing wrong with them, its just a personal preference).

Other first bikes (used), Yamaha Seca II, Kawasaki EX250, EX500's, Suzuki GS500e, GS500F (basically a GS500e with a sportbike body), Honda NT650 Hawk (rare and hard to find) and any other standard bikeunder 600 without full bodywork.

Dont let a salesman goade you into a 600supersport. They just want the bigger commission. Most dont give a damn if you crash on a bike thats too much for a new rider. Seen one sell a guy a gsxr750 who never rode a bike, had the salesman show him how to shift, brake and gas. Salesguy came back inside and 3 of them were taking bets on how far the guy makes it before crashing. Guy dumped it twice. Once in the lot and totalled it on the road infront of the dealership (gassed it and it backflipped on him). All the while the 3 salesman were laughing. [:@](yes I did send a letter to the owner of teh dealer and CC'd it to the manufacturers they sell). I've helped pick up many the new rider on a sportbike after they went down. Luckily no major injuries other than cuts, bruises, scrapes and a seriously burised ego.

Progress at your own rate. After a while you'll be able to outride many of the people who had to start on a full on sportbike with the little bike (easier to ride a small bike at its limits than a big bike at its limits).

The SV-650 was actually the bike I was going to buy originally until I saw the Katana 600 sitting next to it on the showroom floor. I fell in love immediately!
And I agree with RP Racing - that gixxer 750 is raw power and will probably dump you if you haven't ridden for a good few years already...
I grew up on dirt bikes,mopeds,and a Rebel 450, and even my heavy Katana 600 gave me a lot to learn.
Plus, not sure about the 750, but I know on most 1000cc bikes, in every gear through 3rd, the more u turn that throttle the more the tendency of front end coming off the ground, without popping the clutch
