The Dakota rebate is now $4000...and it lasts for two months. If you're going to buy (especially a special order), you should do it now. I've been looking for a new truck since last fall and this offer might be too good to pass by.

Yeah, but not for 22K...More like 29K I bet...He'll need to decide if that extra power is worth that much extra cash...I doubt it is.
Good point, the pricing will be a bit higher. I think 7K is a bit too high though...that 22K included all the rebates he was getting. I think the actual MSRP, not including rebates, would be closer to 26-28K. Unfortunately, though, rebates won't be too big on the new '08s for a long time.

Ya, the '08's will be at a premium, they are suppose to get better mileage. You can go to carsdirect.com or Edmunds and find the invoice price as long as you know what options .

You may even try to get the dealer quote thorough carsdirect, I did it with a Nissan and they honored the exact price and I was out of the dealer in less than 30 minutes!

Don't thinkthe dealer is not making anything if you get it at invoice (minus the rebate) the dealer has a "holdback" of anywhere from 3-5% off of invoice from the factory. Granted they won,t make much, but if they have a few on the lot they are inclined to move them.

when looking at new car prices you can throw the msrp out the window, NEVER WORK FROM THAT NUMBER!!! As said above, find out what the dealer cost is using the internet, from there negotiate some of the dealer hold back and then subtract the rebate. You said msrp was 26.8k so dealer cost(with out looking up the exact number) should be around 24.8k(approx -2k). then subtract some dealer hold back(see what you can get out of this especially over half way through the sales year) and then take off the 4k rebate. The max you should pay for that is 20.5k(thats leaving the dealer almost all the hold back. Rember the dealer will try and make it sound like they are giving you the 4k discount(thats from the factory). Just a few months ago chrysler had a back log of new vehicals over 100,000 units that were waiting to go to dealer lots and were just sitting where ever they could store them, they need to move units.
If you're serious about the purchase and the truck has what you need and want make them a solid offer and let them know that you will sign if they accept.

1) I paid $1000 less ($21,500) for my decently equipped SLT. Now, note I don't have four wheel drive, so that'll knock it up a bit, but you should be able to get it a lot cheaper than $22,500.
I picked up my truck used about 2 months ago and I wanted a manual Trans so there were only two manny Daks on the employee lot when I picked up mine. I payed 14K out the door my truck is a Decently equipped SLT CC...meaning it has the Tow prep package and power Convience Group... The other manny dak was an ST with no options besides AC but it was a 4X4, plus it had about 1.5K more miles on it...it was about a grand more...however they were both V6's. Now Of course I know you won't be able to get ur dak as cheap as mine, but my point here is that the fact that its a 4X4 is significantly going to up the price...so even an ST 4X4 can be more expensive than an SLT 4X2...so I think it might be a little more than a bit if your comparing similiarly equpied trucks only one is four wheel and one is two wheel.

$20.5k was the figure i was "quietly contemplating"...thanks for reinforcing my "gut feeling" ...i'll tell him 20k...and if he shows any signs of interest in closing the deal, i'll go up to 20.5

Also, keep in mind that the 08 will also have the flex fuel capability. Someone said something about the 2010's possibly coming out with a smallercummings like in the Liberties.

The next Dak I buy won't have AWD and will probably be an Extended Cab instead of the QC since it'll be lighter, but I'll keep the 4X4 on it.

Ya had me curious, so I just checked. My MSRP on the window sticker was $25,860 and I ended up paying $20,400 for it...that was with employee pricing plus $2500 rebate. That's cheaper than I remembered...I thought it was closer to $21,000. My memory's going...I'm getting old...lol

i'm in VT, i don't think we can have flex fuel engines due to the california regulations we have adopted here....i'd love to see diesels in a light truck segment... but we'll have to wait few years for that... i hope to see VW rolling out few inexpensivepassenger car models later this year equipped with super clean diesels, to pave the way

Is flex fuel really that great though? From what I've seen it's usually more expensive than gas and you get worse mileage with it. As an example: http://www.eere.energy.gov/fleetguid...ickup/New*York
