What tranny do I have? can I firm shifts?
In my 07 Dak, 4x4 4.7 FlerxFuel. It's the 5 spd Auto, that I know, but whats the model number/code? Basically, I want to firm up the shifts. It sliiiides into gear, DOnt like that. My other ride is a 77 Trans am with a healthy 455, just shy of 600 FtLbs of Tq. Backed by a TH400, full manual shift. When you shift that, it's NOW. I am used to that and want a more positive shift out of the Dak. If I could up the MPH at where it shifts into 5th too, that would be a bonus as well
Thx in advance for your help, this is my first Dodge ever, but have allways loved Dodge trucks.

I believe all 4.7 auto Dakotas have the 545RFE transmission, unless they put a different one on the flex fuel but I don't see why they would.
Altier is right it is a 545RFE. Transgo makes a shift kit 4#54RFE-HD2 for it which is pretty simple to install and includes springs seals and a diode to increase line pressure. I have one but have not installed it yet. I have heard different opinions on results from can barely feel it to firm and nice. google 545rfe shift kit and you will find a couple of people have documented the install, one a Dakota and one a Jeep liberty (I think).
APSprecision has the instructions on line and claim "their " transgo kit is a newer version justifying the $109. The new version has a snap ring and some parts to install if the tranny is out, which is the version I got from transpartsusa. Somepost I have read on other dodge forums say the kit is the same, one post I read said APS adds a shim to one of the springs (I will look for it and post it).
If yours is a 4x4 I think you will have to remove the crossmember to get to the pan, and I heard the diode is a bitch to install because of limited space under the truck. otherwise it is pretty easy. The problem with the electronicly controlled transmissions is the PCM is constantly adjusting the trans for a certain type of shift, thus smoothing it out.
I hope this helps, this is a little of what I have learned about it, now I just need to get off my butt, go get a 12 pack and install mine one of these saturdays. Oh, make sure you use ATF+4, and change both filters as long as the pan is off, and discommect the battery to reset the PCM..
Here is the best price I have found on the net $75 to the door and where I bought mine http://www.transmissionpartsusa.com/...-052930hd2.htm
Here are instructions, but the new version has 2 additional pages for the parts that require the tranny to be out;

OKm my next Q, what about Warranty?? what if DC finds out? It is a lease. I don't really care I guess, because the Dak had 200 Miles and I modded the stock exhaust, have CAI on the way and altering the IAT LMAO. But curious if a shift kit would void warranty?
Also, does anyone know the difference between the SK 45rfr kit and the 45rfe HD? Ones under shift kit, the other is in reprogrammer, but both have the same explanation on Transgo.com. They dont have a 1800 number for me to call, and being in Canada, that would be a expensive call fro me and I am a cheap SOB LMAO
Again, thx in advance

Yah, I think you can forget about your warranty if you have a problem and they discover the kit, which includes a valve plate that is stamped transgo ( I guess you could use the original one and cut out the resistor)
I have read the springs are stiffer on the HD2, but have also read conflicting reports on that as well (posts have said they have been told both they are the same and they are different from different Transgo Tech's. Might be worth a call...
Just don't be disappointed when it does not shift like that T400!!!

Ya, I dont think I'll be able to live 3 years with this sliiiiiiding into gear shifting HAHA guess its a chance I'll have to take. Anyone who has done the kit, is it reversable? Like if I had to do Trans warranty on something, can the kit be removed back to stock before I take it back?

Before you go with the kit, have you tried resetting the computer (take the positive cable off the battery and leave it off for awhile, not sure how long exactly) and shift it manually for awhile so it learns the shifting habits you want? With the setup on our trucks the computer attempts to tailor the shifting patterns to your driving so resetting it and really getting in the throttle could make a big difference depending how it's programmed itself currently.
Yes, totally reversible. I am concerned about warranty as well, I may not use the transgo valve plate. I wouldn'tworry about the lease return, (they will sell it and out of your hands)but if you have a tranny problem yank it out before the dealer gets his hands on it.
Did you check the directions from the link I sent? pretty easy! IF you have problems with the link I can e-mail you my directions.

Ya, I looked at the directions, extremely easy compared to the GM trany's I have done.
What's this learning how I shift? Mostly its the shifting into 4th/5th to early, and the sliiiiding inti gear I hate But you mean to say if I man shift it, it will remember those patterns? How long before it relearns? Both me and My wife drive it.
