You are in luck!! I just switched out all the tranny fluid(including the torque converter) to amsoil...

I am gonna take a guess that you already know where the hoses are located. The one on the passenger side is the output line from the convertor to the radiator. The hose on the driver's side is the return line from the radiator back to the convertor.

Let us know how it goes (pics would be nice), I am considering the same soon myself...

Well, we already know about the oil and the cross member rught under the drain hole.
The rear diff wasabout the easiest, used a rubber mallet to knock thecoverloose.
I guess you *could* take the tranny pan off without removing the cross member, but I was just so pissed that it was in the way.
The front diff is a PITA, I think Frenchy had about as much fun as I did. There is just not a whole lot of room there to work.

So far everything seems to be running smoother. The tranny shifts much smoother now, and it seems to roll easier with the diff fluids replaced. But that is just 'seat of the pants', I am tracking mileage to see if there is any improvement...

Dak_in_black, Thanks for the information, I really wasn't looking foward to breaking those connections. I went through 77 pages on this forum the other day and found one guy who installed a cooler on his Dak. He had pictures from the front but none where he connected to the lines. Thanks again.

Also, how much is a tranny cooler, and who makes a good one, or whatever?

I want this truck to last me forever, so I'm trying to make it so it will.

And the damn Getrag tranny will cost about 3500 dollars if it ever goes bad....

So.... I'd rather not have to fix that for a LONG time, so I'd like to keep the temps cool in there.

All of you are familiar with the tranny coolers that mount on the radiator but there is another type that is typically used on street rods. They are tubular, finned aluminum coolers that mount under the vehicle and eliminate the need for radiator-mounted coolers. If you are interested, I'll locate a web site and post it.

The tow package already has a transmission cooler from the factory right?
