Rear Brake issue
Its not in all trucks, there's a post in the forum that lists the recalls for each model year, this was one of the problems with the 06 model year and it was only a certain portion of the 06 models. You'll know if its not working if you brake hard and the wheels lock up instead of the ABS kicking in and pumping the breaks. If you're concerned about it and don't want to race down the road and slam on your breaks to test it, you can just have the dealer or a mechanic check it out next time you have your truck in the shop, i think the problem was with the ECU.
hmm... I thought that our trucks would just basically lock up regardless of whether or not ABS was working because our trucks only have rear wheel ABS... which from my understanding is only supposed to stop our trucks from fishtailing when you slam on the brakes...
yeah I think all vehicles 2002 and later should have 4 wheel ABS.. but unfortunately my truck sure doesn't... learned that on the first full day I had my truck...lets just say it rained the night before and froze in the early morning ... so there was lots of black ice all over...
Just got back from the dealer. Apparently my ABS are fine. They ran computer tests, visually inspected it, took the truck out for a test, and then tested it with me in the truck and I felt the ABS come on (this was at about 15-20mph or less, I've only had the problem with my rear end locking up and fishtailing at speeds over 50mph). The dealer even checked for any Dodge recalls or notices, whatever you want to call them, for any malfucntions with the ABS for my truck and there were none.
So I asked him if there was any reason for why it happens and he gave me the typical answer which is it could be a number of things depending on a number of things. I asked if upgrading my front brakes to larger more powerful disks would help and he said probalby not, but if I do get larger tires for my truck I will definitly be putting larger, more powerful brakes on the front. I just don't know what to do about the rear, since everything with them is OK. I wonder if a disk conversion for the rear would accomplish anything, I hear its a waste of money though since the front brakes do the majority of the stopping. Anyone have any ideas on what my problem is or how to fix it, I guess it could just be the way I drive too...

Could be that at higher speeds with the ABS only being on the rear wheels you're just not noticing it? I really don't think it would keep you from skidding at all, help keep the rear wheels in line is about all it could do (I know my abs is working and mine will still skid if I slam on it, rear-only abs sucks)
I totally agree that having rear ABS only sucks! I wish I had the 4 wheel ABS. Looks like we have the same problem with our trucks, at least its not something major wrong with the truck, its just how it is. The only experience I've ever had with ABS was in a Dodge Neon and I could easily tell and feel the difference when it came on. With this truck I haven't ever noticed it during my "emergency stopping situations" but at those times your not exactly listening or trying to feel your ABS kick in, its more of an "oh crap i better straighten my truck out and stop before i hit someone." I wonder if it would stop better if there was a load in the back of my truck, right now I have about 100lbs in there which is nothing, maybe, u know since trucks are designed for hauling crap, it would stop better, or at least maybe the ABS would do a better job, if the back end of the truck wasn't so light.
I guess we could go on and on about this with no real answer. I think eventually I might just put new front disks and brake pads on, I know there was another post somewhere about someone using ECM rotors and pads and having good results.

Yeah I was very disappointed to find that we only had rear ABS, espcecially considering my past vehicles... 1993 sierra 2wd rear abs (stripped base model), 1989 suburban rear abs, 1995 silverado 4x4 4wheel abs, 1994 integra gsr 4wheel abs, 1998 trooper 4x4 4wheel abs. So everything I've owned newer than 94 had 4wheel abs standard yet my 2005 doesn't? Kudos to dodge for using tech from 1989...
yeah having 4wheel drive ABS is about a 1200 dollar option! isn't that just stupid? yeah now dodge has that lifetime Powertrain Warrantee! aint' that some ****! couldn't they have done that in 2006? why wait until 2007? bastards!
