Default Pepboys Tire I found

Hey folks!

Wanted to get your opinion on this tire. I don't know if all of you have a Pepboys locally or not, but I saw this tire yesterday. I know it seems a bit cheezy, but there is a part of me that thinks it would be kinda cool having the whitewalls out with it saying Dakota on it. What do you think? I was going to go slightly bigger than original size. They have a special on right now that is buy 3 tires and get the fourth free. Tell me what you think please. I'll try and find an actual sidewall pic that shows the Dakota written on it, but this is all they had at the Pepboys site. Thanks!!

I've seen these tires on trucks before. I'm not too sure how their performance is though. Just by looking at them they seem good and rugged enough to perform off road good. I couldn't find them on The Tire Rack web site comparison chart, but they look good to me. If you're on a budget and they're less than the BFGs I bought for $160 each then that's a good way to go.

I"ve seen these tires on the road but didn't know where they came from. They are probably made by one of the big tire companies. If so, they probably match another tire design. My biggest issue would be who makes them. If they are made in Korea or China like more and more stuff is, I'd never put them on my vehicle. Kelly makes Discount Tire brand's tires so maybe they make Pep Boy's also.
Since you only have 4 small patches of rubber connecting you to the road, I need to be sure my tires are the best that I can afford.

There was a guy looking at them while I was and he said the he was told that they are an "off" brand of BFG (hince the similar tread pattern). Thats 3rd party info, but he said thats exactly why he was looking at them. They have a 50K treadlife and are considered all weather traction. They have 265/75/16 for $101 each. That makes them at least $40-50 cheaper than all the other ones I have been looking at (all name brands). Here in South Texas I only have to worry about heat and rain (thank goodness more rain lately than heat!!) so snow isn't an issue. My Dad just got the Uniroyal Liberator A/T and he loves them. They are $100 at Walmart and a 50K treadlife as well. I'm going in the same direction as Jimbo and a few others. I have a 2WD but just want what I call a "trail look" nothing all jacked up and crazy. I'm getting the 2" TM leveling kit next month and really want to sort out what kind of tires I want soon. But, unlike most of you, I don't have $160 a tire to spend. I appreciate everyones input.

Like I said, it was 3rd party info I was going on and like rick says, I figured they were from a bigger company. Thats why I was asking everyone here. There is soo much knowledge about everything here I figured someone would know what they are like. I've never owned a set of Cooper tires, anyone have any complaints about them?? Thanks for the input, every little bit helps!!

The tire in question is made by Cooper, I have them on my 2000 Durango, I've gone through everything with them and have never lost traction. I definately would recommend them. I'm saving for a set of 4 on my truck now.

BTW, that saying "you get what you pay for", yeah you do if you wouldn't mind paying an extra 50-90 bucks just becuase of a name.......... They're pratically the same as the BFG, and 60 -90 bucks cheaper because of the name.

Yeah, there are a lot of products out there that you pay quite a sum of money for just to have a 'name'. Lots of weekend warriors buy HD for the 'image', I guess paying 16K for 100 year old technology that barely makes 50 hp makes you cool [sm=dontgetit.gif]
