Hi guys,
I have a 91 Dakota that's slowly dieing and I'm thinking about trading for a new one. I'm trying to decide between a new Ram or Dakota. The biggest thing is towing. I am into old VW beetles I have towed them with mine just fine, but I would like to be able to tow a 18' trailer with a full size truck on it. This would only be on rare occasions. Like if my Dad's ramcharger would break down. Have you guys pulled any heavy cars or trucks?
Also would I be better off waiting for the new 08' model. I have read that the 4.7 will have more power. When will it come out?
Thanks, Nick

Well personally I haven't towed anything... IMO I think you should wait until the 08's... I believe they are coming out this fall ... so soon...
def get the cummings my father in laws will tow anything... we tow all kinds of stuff horse trailers, other trucks, ect. My dak has pulled almost 6,000lbs, thats puushin it... when towing the cummings doesn't even know anythings behind it at all!!!
With the towing pkg and the 3.92:1 rear axle ratio, our trucks will tow 7,150 lbs. That's the upper limit. I have the towing pkg with 3.55:1 and have towed my '53 Chevy PU on a car trailer with no problem. I estimate that the load was about 6,000 lbs. You can probably get a better deal on an '07 than an '08.
IMO - buying a truck that will tow huge weight and only using it occasionally is a waste of $$$.

That's what I was thinking. Like I said it will be rare for me to pull that much. I really don't tow much, I just wanted to know I could get by with it.
It sounds like it did a good job pulling your Chevy.
Thanks, Nick

Here's your answer about towing a truck, from this thread: https://dodgeforum.com/m_753968/tm.htm

Yeah, I just saw that on the other thread.
This site is great! There is a ton of information here.
I decided I'm getting a Dakota. Hate to get rid on my 91' but the time has come for it to go. I might go this weekend to look and ask when the '08 will out.
I will be on here a lot once I get it.
