2006 Dakota - might buy
Hi all,
We are looking at a used Dakota, 2006 ST Quad Cab, 4.7 V8, manual transmission. The truck has 12K miles. I have been reading through lots of information and was wondering if this truck has a good track record with regards to reliability. We will mostly use this vehicle to pull our pop up camper on vacations and then on the weekends around town. They are asking $12,000. Any information/advice will be greatly appreciated!!!

IMO it should be good to you, and that's a killer price. Pick it up and when Bilstein releases front shocks throw those on, that'll take care of your most likely troublemaker
I agree with Altair. Damn good price, and the truck will pull the popup camper with no problem. Like Altair said, when the market comes out with a good set of coilover front shocks, buy them. That is probably the biggest complaint about our trucks. Other than that, they are good tough trucks and you will enjoy owning it. Keep us posted and keep coming back here, there are a fantastic group of people here that know the Gen3 front to rear! Good luck!
These trucks are really quite realiable. I use mine for towing, mostly, and much heavier towing than a pop-up and it just keep on going. If you do get a heavier trailer, I'd recommend airbags in the back, actually. Mine sags like crazy and that's one thing I'm definitely going to add them once I get a job.
Good find on the V-8/6sp....they're pretty rare. You'll love it!

Yes, yes you will....
Shift under 1700RPMs if you can, and watch the city MPGs stay high... I average 17mpg in town, and around 21 - 24 on the highway....
I have a v8 6spd... as well....
Just gotta watch the shift points.

Yup, I second that one. I usually shift about 2000 RPMs myself and get decent economy...around 16 mpg city. Mine's stock, though, which'll account for the difference...
I would totally buy that truck no questions asked, that's a steal! That's about as much as I still owe on my truck!!! My two good friends and I all have pick ups, I have an 06 Dakota, one has a Ranger and the other an S-10 Extreme, which is actually really nice with all the custom work he has on it, but my truck is definitly more capable than both of theirs, the S-10 would dust me in a race, but its lowered and has a racing clutch and all kinds of crazy stuff done to it. Sorry for rambling a bit, but anyway, my buddy with his S-10, who always makes fun of me for having a dodge, just sold his S-10 and got a Dakota Quad Cab and loves it! Can't go wrong with it, especially not for that price!
