2005 Dodge Dakota Cutting Off
I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota Laramie with about 36,000 miles on it. It has been Intermittently cutting off and intermittently rough idling for about a year. It will stall out on deceleration every two or three months but you can never tell when or where it will do it. The problem is kind of scary because I cannot hear the truck cut off, the first warning I get that it has stalled out again is that my power steering is gone and I have to fight the steering wheel to finish my turn. I have had a couple close calls with cars and curbs as a result. I have taken it to the dealer repeatedly and they have kept it and tested one thing and another only to give it back saying they can't find anything wrong (the computer isn't showing any codes). They have drove all my gas out twice and returned the truck on empty with the same diagnosis, (can't find anything wrong). I kept after them till they contacted a Chrysler Corp Regional Tech and he told them two things to check. First he said for them to drop the transmission pan and check the filter to see if it had any cracks in it. He said on some trucks the filters were cracked and the transmission was sucking air instead of fluid which freaked the transmission out and it would cut the truck off. The checked that and said there were no cracks. The second thing the Chryslers Tech said for them to check was for oil build up underneath the throttle body. They checked and there was no oil build up.
They decided at this time to put the co-pilot (has a new name but I don't remember it) on my truck and they left it on there for a month. They gave me the instruction to push the button if the truck cut off but unfortunately it never cut off during that month and they needed to put the co-pilot on other vehicles so I had to return it. The following weekend the truck cut off twice in one day. I was very upset so I called them and told them. The dealer service manager said he didn't know what else to tell me to do.
The truck still continues to cut off with no solution. I called and spoke with a guy from NHTSA and he said many of the Rams had the same problem and the problem was the RPM was set too low in the computer. Dodge apprantley reprogramed the computer on the affected trucks and everything was better. I have no way to reprogram my computer so I don't know what to do? If anyone has any solutions I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!!!

what i would personally do is, the next time it cuts out crash the truck into something. then leave it call dodge and the police. fill out a report, because you have had this reoccuring problem that no one wants to fix. then leave it with dodge and have them foot the bill for everything. also, go to your local dept of motor vech. and explain what is going on with the truck. they will be able to send someone over to dodge and discuss the problem with them. put your tax dollars to work.or if the truck cuts out again drive it right in the middle of the intersection and leave it. call dodge to come and get it.if you embarras the dealer enough, you will get results.
Dude, I had the EXACT same problem. I have a 2006 Qaud 2wd 4.7L. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the EGR valve(under warranty), and it's been good for a month now. So, we'll see how it behaves. I feel for you bro. I hope you get it fixed...it's pretty frustrating!!
I have the same problem. Had replaced under warranty: ECU, and then the Cam Position Sensor. Neather fixed it.The dealer is going to install a new Crankshaft Position Sensor in the next day or so.
Wow that sucks. I have an 05 and sometimes my truck will have a rough idle and almost to the point of stalling. Usually happens at a red light but as soon as I step on the gas its fine. Its like the engine is choking. I thought it might be dirty gas or maybe since I have over 23,000 miles that maybe the spark plugs may need changing before the recommended 30,000 miles. Never had the truck completely stall out though. I'd tell the dealer either fix it or refund every last dime I paid for the truck and tell them you are going to buy a nissan. Maybe that will rattle some cages. Also check the lemon laws and see if you qualify for that. If you have the 7 year powertrain warranty that was offered briefly on the 05's it won't cost you anything to get the problem fixed.
