Pioneer Avic-D3 Navigation DVD possible?
I just acquired one and noticed that work will need to be done to fit properly(double din screen etc).
Anyone have any ideas how hard and if its possible to get this installed? Also if anyone has any suggestions in southern california to take it to get it done. I know of the common places like ed and al's etc, not really sure where to take it.
Thanks

go to www.crutchfield.com and get in touch with one of their tech support gurus. they would know what needs to be done to the truck and possibly have a few places on stand by for this type of install.

I tried that, and the guy told me it wouldn't fit which I knew, however it seems someone on here has avic d3 in his dakota... My friend also put one in a 300c which has a similar if not exact same fit as the dakota. Thanks for the help though. Im guessing my best choice is to take it in and have them do some work on it.
Ill make sure to take pictures if I can get it done, going on monday.
IT WILL NOT FIT!!!! I had a DV-2 out of a satrun vue I had before the dakota, it broke my heart it would not fit. However if you remove this cross bar and make some mounting brackets it will. I didnt want to cut up my 2 day old truck at the time. Reason I didnt do it is with out this cross bar ack there the dash cover would be missing 2 snap in holders, I figured that would let that cover creek and be loose. Anyway it can be done but would not be a simple drop in. BTW there is a new one out that is way better than the DV-3, check the latest from crutchfield...

Do you know if they make double din navigation bezel's now? I was doing a search and someone had one placed in their dakota free by dodge on this forum? Btw Im hoping to find a place that can customize it, any idea on the cost factor? I don't mind spending some cash to get that factory look since I'm going to be keeping the truck.
I wonder if I could have one made etc

well, a good audio shop with a good fabricator/installer should be able to fiberglass it into the exsisting pannel. We just did an AVIC DS in an older 300M tonight. (by we I mean my friend and I) if you want to try it yourself, I suggest doing a lot of reading on the 12volt.com fabrication forums... it is doable, but if you have never worked with fiberglass and bondo befor, it will take a lot of time, and a lot of hand sanding to get perfect.
The shop I used to work at charged around 125 an hour for a job like that, we had a guy who could pull it off in around 2 though... most guys will take a little/lot longer. but maybe the shops around you are cheaper. We were the only place that did custom fab work in the area.
either way, good luck with your install. The D3 is a great unit. just make sure that whoever installs it doesnt bypass the NSS. the D3 has a problem with constant grounding to that wire. (maybe relay it with a switch or something... if you want to bypass N.S.S.)

Edit:
I went to put it in the durango and the guy said he could put it in easily in the Dakota. He had to cut a little on the bezel and filled the two right holes. Its off getting painted to match the stock color of the truck. So right now the D3 is installed and functional with the bypass etc. Its a really sick system, total with the painting, d3, hourly charge, parts, etc was 1450. Not to bad but not cheap, im very happy so far. Pics to come when bezel gets put on.

I have been having problems, I guess nobody makes a compatible Can-Bus for our dakotas so the dakota cannot talk to any after-market can-bus. Im starting to dislike the dakota more and more.
