Default Bed Extender Installed

Hey, well i just finished installing my westin bed extender. Its really nice quality and super easy to install. Also the quick release latches are great. As you can see in the third picture i had to build a spacer to mount the hinges on so that the extender would clear the hardware for my roll-up tonneau, also the last picture shows the straps that latch into the tailgate latches to hold the extender down. Well i really like the look of it and think it will be real useful, let me know what you think.

Hey Mikey11k,can you do me a favor and get me a measuremet?

I need to know how tall the extender is when you are fliipping it; I want to get something a little better than the piece of 2x4 I have now, but with the cap I need to know whether it will clear the door. If you can also let me know how wide it is as well I would appreciate it!!

yeah that looks good! It looks even better being black and all. If you have your bed extender out, and then the bed cover closed, does it keep a good amount of water out of the inside of the bed? like while driving and all. Does my question make sense?? lol

Yeah, your question makes sense, but I don't think that it would keep out that much water with the gate open... especially if you stop moving.

I would tend to think it would keep most water out quite well. everything has a cover over it except the stuff way at the back, the back would be the only point of entry for water. Since there is a gap between the tailgate and the bed there is little danger of water flowing down the gate and into the bed, plus forward motion will keep water out of there pretty well. Heck, I've had stuff strapped down in the bed right behind the cab with the cover off. Drove through a big rainstorm and it barely got wet at all. The moving part really helps.

im not really sure how well it would keep water out. I would probaly guess pretty well as long as your moving forward. If i ever test it ill let you know.

Dak_in_black: Heres the measurements i took. The tube diameter is 1 5/8". Let me know if you need anymore dimensions.

Most excellent measurements!! thanks!

Now, the problem is that is will not 'flip' with the cap.

Is it a simple opertaion to take it off and just spin it around? I know this kinda defeats the purpose of quickly being able to flip it around, but that would be the only way I could use it...

well that sucks that i wont fit. it is real easy to take off and flip it around and reconnect. With the quick release latches it takes no time at all.
