The redesigned 2005 Dakota no longer shares its platform with the new Dodge Durango SUV (which is now similar to the Ram platform). This model is 3.7 in longer and 2.7 in wider, and features a new front and rear suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering. There are one V6 and two V8 engines available: The standard engine is a 3.7 L PowerTech V6 (specs below); the two 4.7 L V8 engines are the standard PowerTech V8 and the V8 High Output or HO. The Dakota is built at Warren Truck Assembly in Warren, Michigan.
I surely hope Dodge continues to make the Dakota for a long time. If they ever do come out with a diesel (one that is not a lemon as GM did a few years back!), I'm sure all of us will be at the dealer!! I know I will.

If they do put a diesel in the dakota I wonder what the cost would be? I know on the ram a diesel is like 3500 dollars more.

Wow thats a lot. Anyway does anyone remember the diesel version of the jeep liberty and what that was selling for? I know it wasn't out long but I heard they sold a ton of them before they were pulled from the market.

the liberty had a 2.8l I4 mercedes (i think) turbo diesel. it's not that they pulled them off the market. they planned on selling 5000 units and that's it. they were offered in 05 and 06 in the sport and limited models. $2400 and $1200 option depending on sport or limited. they didn't offer them after that because of new emission regs for 07.

keep in mind its not gonna be the same as a diesel truck, with all the low end torque and everything, but it will still be an engine that will last long after the body rusts around it.
