Glad it worked out for you. I only use K&N. I like the feature of the 1" socket connection.
what he said.....the position of the oil filter on the dak isn't bad, isn't great but isn't bad, but still makes it damned easy to remove with a 6pt 1" socket, extension and offset wrench

It seems like everybody who does their own oil changes had to deal with the same factory oil filter B.S.Mine didn't look that bad once I had it off after about an hour of scraped knuckles, sweat, and harsh language. I think these factory filters are installed with the jaws of life working in reverse.

this is what the factory filter looked like after I finally got it off.....don't know who had gone through my tools but the only oil wrench I had was a jaw/plier type that works great on the motorbike but frickin useless on the truck

Thats nothin. Since mine is the long and skinny one for the 3.7, it was even harder. It was about 3 times more mangled than that, with the outer casing peeled back.

hmmm. i've always used STP. last time i used a Fram (besides this last change cause i got a Tough Guard in the oil special) i put it on my Neon, went on easy and everything, started the car up and lost all the oil. somehow the fram was eggshaped a little so it went on...but it leaked like a mother when you turned the car on.

Wow I cant believe I missed this thread.

FRAM oil filters are the single worst filter on the market. They are short-cut city. They use Cardboard ends on the filter media inside the oil filter housing. They glue the cardboard ends on. the net is littered with info how fram is garbage.

Near everything else is created equal.

Here is a link showing you all you would ever want to know about all oil filters on the market:

Holy sheet, I wished I would have been a member then, I had a beech of a time getting the factory filter off. It was all mangled and what not. It was horrible, until I got a filter wrench that was used with a ratchet and squeezed the living sheet out of it.I thought I was the only one with that problem. A 20 min job turned in to 45 minutes. Slam a screwdriver through it and use that for leverage to get it started, worked like a charm for me [sm=devilgrin.gif] You're not going to use it again anyway.

I usually use Purolator PureOne filters (supposed to be good, plus the blue metallic paint on the outside is cool!)
If I can't find the Purolator, I'll use ACDelco (I know, I don't drive a GM - whatever).
I might start using NAPA Gold.

That ended up cutting mine in half.
