Can't decide what gears to order for my 2008
ORIGINAL: Frenchy
That's what I did...
You just CAN'T get the 6spd on a 2008 4.7L... yet.
The 6spd, is pretty much an option that subtracts 900 dollars off the total price...

Do you think they'll make it available at any point? I mean, if they wouldn't put it behind the H.O in our model trucks, how or why would they make it available on one withan engine that's putting out 40+ more HP? Maybe they could make another 6 spd available, but their supposed reason for not doing it on the H.O is that the engine had too much torque or HP for the trans. Haha
Maybe they could put the manny tranny from the SRT10 in the new Dakota. [&:](I think I just wet myself thinking about that)
It'd be nice if they did would put the MTX with the new 4.7. I wonder if you could get it built that way on the Ram? Has anyone checked that?
In '06, when I bought, the salesman searched all over for a 4.7 6sp. with a tow package and no one had one. He had a 4.7 Sport with the 6 sp. on the lot, but I didn't like the blue and it was tow package-less, and towing was half the reason I bought the thing. So I had to order mine.
I do find it amusing that the 6sp. was an "option" the reduced the price by about $1000....that seems to be the standard anymore...autos are everywhere, but an MTX as an option will save ya money.

Got an update for you guys
Comanche guy found a used 2007 Club Cab 4.7L (no HO),6 speed, 4x4, fully loaded with tow package. It wasa Dodge Exec's truck and must be a special build....only 12K on it. Going to have a look this weekend. Has the new generation of truck owners stopped buying manuals?, if so, all the fun will be gone if they go the way of the Dodo...If Iorder a HEMI ina Dodge...the word Automatic Transmission can't even be in the same sentence as far as I'm concerned. Sorry it was the way I was brought up (a friend of mine has a 1970 Hemi Superbird, 4 Speed...it's one of 6 that sold in Canada). Thanks for all your input guys, it was really helpful in me making my decision.

That sounds like a nice combo. With the 4.7 and 6spd you will probably get as much as, if not more, HP to the wheels as an HO motor due to the HP sucking auto trans in the HO trucks. You also wont have to deal with the computer holding back the motor for torque management(again to save the auto trans
). If its in nice shape with what seems low milage sounds good. Update us on the drive even if you don't get it........[sm=icon_cheers.gif]
OH, and I had a 88 Jeep just like that, loved the 4.0 with the manual tran. Mine was a one wheel wonder though so I had to sell it as I neededmore tractionfor pulling snowmobiles off road up North.

good find.... I'd deffinatly get the 4.7 over the 3.7. you wont notice the difference in gas, from wat i've heard. and atleast 3.55 preferably the 3.92. i had to get everything!!! the only thing i wish i had was the 3.92. and a manual. once i get the lift and what not i might just get 4.10's...
Good luck on your truck hunting....
