Can't decide what gears to order for my 2008
Need your help guys
I own a 1987 4.0 L, 5 speed, Comanche since she was new and I love this truck but she's getting tired now. I'm ordering a Dakota SXT 4x2, 3.7L, 6 speed, with LSD. I don't know whether to order the 3.21 or 3.92 rear gears The old Jeep did a 1/4 in 16s @ 90 MPHif I remember correctly and I'm wondering if I can expect somewhere near that performance out of the Dakota. The majority of my driving is highway, I go to the cottage every wkend (300 mi) and like to be able to drop it down a gear or two to pass grandma on the two-lane highways but I need to be able to drive past a gas station or two. I need to tow a 3000 pound boat to the loading ramp twice a year and I fill it full of building materials for the cottage on occasion but it is primarily used to get me to work and play. I hope your not going to tell me to get the 4.7, you can't order one with a 6-speed and the LSD.Anyone out there have any suggestions based on personal experience? Thanks Guys

Well based on mileage reports from members here the 3.7l doesn't seem to get much better mileage than the 4.7l does so if that makes a big difference for you it's something to consider. The 4.7l will be better for towing and probably more fun. (sorry, I know you didn't want to hear that but I'm just trying to relay what I've seen here
) I know you can get the 4.7l and 6speed manual, Frenchy has that combo, not sure if he has the LSD or not though. If you are getting the 3.7l I'd definitely vote for the 3.92 gears. I myself have the 4.7l with auto trans and 3.55 gearing open differential. It goes pretty good and has no problems towing, personally I'd rather have higher gearing but it's not necessary (will probably go with 4.10 gearing and LSD when I get some money saved up). I'm pretty sure I'd be unhappy with 3.21 gearing though and that's with the 4.7l soo... just something to think about. Hope this helps some.

I would vote against the V6 only 1 mile per gallon over the V8. the 3:92 gears make it an awesome tow machine! I don't know if your able to marry a 6 speed to it.
You can't marry a 6 speed to the new 4.7, unfortunately. As for gears, get the 3.92s. With a pretty heavy truck, and a sluggish engine in the V6, the 3.21s are going to feel like you have no power whatsoever. It'd be awful to tow with the 3.21s, too....it just won't have a lot of get up and go.
I've wondered that for months now and asked on here a few times with no answer. Soooo...I went to Dodge's website to 'build' one for myself. To my dismay I found out exactly that. You can't get the 4.7 with the 6 speed with any option/trim package. That really sux, but I was afraid that's how it would be since they wouldn't even put the 6 speed behind the H.O the last few years, and the new version of the 4.7 has even more power than the older H.O. Good thing I plan on keeping my '05.

You could get the 4.7 is 06 and 07...
I don't think they sold enough to make it worth continuing.. and yes, I have LSD...
My truck has everything, short of laramie, leather, buckets, and a sunroof...
Othewise, every option that was available when I ordered mine, I got.

dodge has a customer request form when ordering any truck. if they make the parts you can get what ever you want. go to the dealer to build your truck not on the web site. they will specially build one for you.and if they wont just tell them you are gonna go somewhere else.you may pay a little more for the truck but it will be worth it
