Painting Rims
Has anyone painted their rims by themselves? I was thinking of Painting my rims with a Black and Red Paint Scheme...Does anyone know how hard this is to do? Cuase i was thinking of painting the rims when the weather warms up a little bit!!!
well i painted my 93 tbirds winter rims black , and only used black metallic spray paint and they have lasted 2 seasons, i kept them all black with a stock silver lip

I painted mine. I used autozone wheel paint. I used paint stripper on the wheels to remove the road grime/clear coat. I then hit them with a 800grit wet sanding.
I used 4 coats of color, 4 coats of clear. they are still holding up and the salt isnt effecting them.

Same as everyone above.......... I went to Discount bought some paint, applied stripper, sanded, applied coats, and bam your done.
I also painted my rims black, but went with the yellow calipers. They stand out a hell of a lot better then the red.

okay..yeah my buddy came by today with his 350Z and we just cleaned them and then used Sandpaper to sand the wheels down...whiped them down dried them off and then painted them...using 3 coats of paint then 3 coats of Clear! but I'm gonna wait till it gets warmer!

So, you wiped them down, dried them, sanded them, painted them, using three color three clear, but you aren't doing this til it's warmer?
...something doesn't seem quite right, here.

1) cleaned the wheels
2) sanded the rims
3) took a wet paper towel to get the dust and stuff off of the rim
4) took dry paper towel to make sure the rim was dry
5) then painted the rim with 3 coats
6) then sprayed 3 coates of clear coat
thats how we did it this past weekend on my Buddies 350Z
and i was talking about MY rims aren't gonna be done till it gets warmer...cause painting outside when its colder and damper isn't the best time to do so.
yeah my bad i shoulda made it clearer...but what i'm thinking about doing IS doing a black and red paint scheme...
if you lookat our rims..on each spoke they kinda have a little lip to them...I'm thinking about doing those lips in Red adn then the rest of the Rim in Black! what do ya think?
