I just put this up on Dodge Talk, but I wanted to get input from you guys too...

I made the mistake of going to Dodge.com today and checking out the 2008 Ram...all of a sudden I had worked up a Reg Cab, Short Bed 1500 with the 310 HP 4.7L, a 6 speed manual and basic power options for about $17,000...They're taking $6250 off the top. I bought my V6 Dak for $16,500.

Now my truck is worth about $12k for a trade in. I know I'll assume the remaining $2000 I owe on my loan, but a 310 HP 6 speed truck for under 20 large? With lifetime warranty? Can you see my dilemma??

The local Dodge dealer is 3 minutes down the road, so I might go and work the salesman there for sh*ts this weekend. See if he laughs at me when I tell him what I want to do.

There's basically one set of circumstances that would really get me ready to buy a new Ram...if the dealer will give me almost all my remaining Dakota loan in trade in value, and if I can talk the guy down to under 17 grand for a Ram that comes in at about $17,800 after incentives. Am I an idiot for expecting this from anyone? Am I an idiot for buying two new trucks in a year?

I like my Dak, so please,talk some sense into me... this is the truck I wanted in the first place (I know, Dakota treason), but it just wasn't available last year. It's taken exactly 7 months to go upside down on my loan because of the monster incentives they were giving on my truck...now Dodge (and I) are it again.

Dont be too jealous the 4.7 int the rams is only 235HP.... the hemi (5.7) is 330 HP but I think you have to get an automatic! keep your Dakota!

no they are 310 horsepower now. and hell no I wouldnt be jelous of that. Just imagine to have 310 horsepower and being able to control it with your LEFT AND RIGHT FOOT. I may have to go to dodge.com and mess around a little bit... but i'd never trade in my dakota.

how many hp does the 4.7l magnum in the dakota get?

It gets the 310 hp 4.7l Fuel Flex Engine

the 08 ram has 310hp and the new dakota is 302hp I think

08 rams also had 302 horsepower and so does the 08 daks with the 4.7. 09 rams will have 310 and i'm assuming dakotas will too. I guess all they did was tweak the computer go get those 8 extra horses. If you think about it, since the 4.7 has came out it's gained 85 horses... not bad. However I think it's reaching the end of it's potential... with it's displacement it's gotta be close to as good as it can get... without major aftermarket mods anyway.

there are more they can do with the parts they have to give it more power its just manufaturers detune them so they are safe and run a long time. most of the parts on my race car are junkyard parts with a chip I added to the stock computer so I can tune it with my laptop. you can do a little porting to the heads, manifolds, bigger valves, hgher profile cams, even port the tb like the fastman does and gain a good bit

dude, and i thought i got a decent deal on my truck, but u paid 16k?!?!?!?

Same engine in both Ram and Dakota, but not available with clutch in Dakota.
I'm lucky to have the 4.7/6-speed combo that was only available two years.
My next truck will be the Ram 2500 w/Hemi and 6-speed stick!
