Default Idle a bit rough

Hello. I'm new to the site and have found it quite informing. I have a question regarding my 2006 Dakota quad cab with a 4.7 V8. Bought it new and have about 43000 miles. When sitting still it idles rough. Not too bad, but noticeable. The tach doesn't move but I can notice it. I had the dealer check it around 35000 miles and he couldn't find any problem. Just as I figured since the warranty is up at 36k. Anyway, could the plugs need replacing? I never have changed plugs in a previous vehicle so early. Is this common in this engine/vehicle? Also would you recommend going to a KN air filter and if changeing plugs what would be best to go with?

I would change the plugs and go with Autolite 3923's. I changed mine at about 15k and it seems to like the new ones much better, not to mention the factory ones were all gapped incorrectly.

Get rid of those stock plugs ASAP. Definitely Autolite 3923s.

So do ya think that is the problem? The plugs worn out or just junk to start with? If I put in the Autolites do they last longer? And...are these plugs hard to change? Thanks so much for the help.

The Labor for installing Spark Plugs in the 05 Dak 4.7 calls for 1.1 hours.
I did mine in about 15-20 min. Not bragin' just sayin' they're not bad at all to do. And yes I went with the AL 3923s.

well the stock plugs i pulled mine out...they were all over the place... .43 .56. 45 .48 and the worst one was at .61 i think...they are so way outa gap...I think they just get them and throw them in there w/o gapping properly. They are supposed to be gapped at .40 just letn ya know and make sure you go with the Autolite 3923's

Are the plugs platinum, or just regular ones?

OK here is my report.... HOLLY S**T the truck sounds so much better! As I said earier didnt think my truck ran that bad but just seeing others suggestions I decided to change them. The idle is so much better. I dont know if it has anything to really do with it but my ticking noise has gone away completely! My gaps on the old plugs ranged from .035 to .050. I suggest everyone change them. Mine were bad at 21k! I will change them every 20K now, too easy and cheap not to. I put in the 3923s. Advanced was trying to sell me the new iridium, said no thanks! Also they listed the 3922 for my truck, gave me grief about the 3923.

God I love this board. Still have to drive it but im sure it will accelerate better!

Oh BTW discoveded my air filter fell off my KN intake, have NO clue how long I have been driving w/o an air ilter (OOPS)
