The Commander is an awesome truck, I would love to get one. I would opt for the v8 but safetyobc isn't the first one I have heard say the 3.7 is adequate powerwise... I wonder how there weight compares to a 3rd gen Dak?

I don't understand why someone would buy a 2wd jeep. I don't understand why anyone would waste the money on a 4wd if it would never be used. Never had a 4wd and probably never will. I just don't have a reason and my wife really doesn't have a reason.

We have a Commander 3.7. It is my wife's. We love it! It is an awesome vehicle. The 3.7 has plenty of power for highway use. Ours is a 4 x 2. We got it loaded for about $26k.
safetyobc, have you done any mods to it. I was definately thinking about a muffler and a k&n filter. I don't want to put a 40series flowmaster or anything (want to keep noise down) but i was thinking of maybe a 24" magnaflow, any suggestions. And what do you know/use the automatic manual shifter when you are in drive?

We haven't done any mods to it. It is my wife's ride, and she isn't in to any of that power mods. It feels like it has plenty of power for her use.

I don't know that she uses the shifter feature. Maybe when we first got it she used it a few times playing around when passing people, and such. I have played with it a couple times. I think it is kind of a gimmick to get some buyers who want the option of being able to downshift?

It is an awesome vehicle. I love riding in it. Tons of room. Gas milage sucks, but that is to be expected. It came with the 3 sunroofs (1 sunroof, 2 skylights). The "Command" seating is a neat feature. The middle seat has plenty of room to fit a full grown man comfortably. She wanted the DVD system, but we didn't want to pay the $2000 or whatever it was. We went to Radio Shack and got a dual screen system for under $150. Works excellent, keeps the kids nice and quite on long trips.

She had a 2007 Toyota Camry. She loved that car. But was broadsided by an idiot who blew a stop sign running 70 mph. It took me several weeks before I could get her to drive again. Thank God she wasn't seriously injured, but she still has neck problems (you can literally hear it crack when she turns her head too fast). Anyway, they totaled her car and we drove several vehicles before she found one she felt "safe" in. The Commander feels like it is built like a tank and that gives her peace of mind.

I was really hesitant about getting such a large vehicle with only a V6. But honestly it has NEVER felt under powered at any speed to me.

we really dig ours as well. I will probably put a muffler on it and a kn air filter and be even happier. but it does have plenty of power, which did suprise me and i dig the room. My wife was mainly after the third row. Coming out of a pt cruiser is a whole new world.

My wife and I wanted some items on Black Friday. So we took the Commander and some blankets. We camped out in the back. Just let the middle seats down and stretched out! It was very comfortable. We had the DVD player going, snacks, etc. It was nice. We stayed in the back in the parking lot until people started showing up, then we got in line. We got the items we wanted (for our son). We love the room. It is hard to imagine that we will ever go back to a smaller vehicle. But I think she will eventually get another car. Heck, I may even take the Commander then, lol.

i like the 2008 dakota. i saw one yesterday at the car show in the mall, the front end looks so much nicer. If I ever got one it would have to be with the 4.7 and 3.92 year with limited slip. I dont think i could ever part with my 01 dak though, it means a lot to me since it was my late grandpa's. Maybe 5 or 6 years from now i'll get like an 09 or 10 dakota, but i plan on keeping my 01 and doing a 440/904 swap and using it as a race only truck... that would really be something special.
