speakers (05 dodge dak quad cab)
I am new to the threads and have been looking for some opinions for new speakers for my 05 dodge dakota quad cab
I want some good vocals speakers in the front and I want more of a bass speaker in the back. I would love to add a sub but no one makes enclosures for it.
I am running the 4 speaker setup but i upgraded to the 6 in dash cd mp3 stock unit.
I have to replace the speakers soon b/c my head unit blew out the front drivers side. I also would like to know if anyone has any info on removing the rear door panels. as i already have the DIY for the front. thanks

I replaced all 4 speakers and head at the same time, all ordered thru Crutchfield. At the time they had a special on Polk, so I went with all four Polk speakers, which sound great with my Pioneer reciever, 50x4. I play everything from metal to country, and all of it has good bass response and the highs are crystal clear.
Crutchfield provided all of the directions step by step, and I know this forum has directions somehwere if you do a search. If I remember correctly the rear door panels were easier than the front, and neither wew hard. I was done with all four speakers within 30 minutes.

Well... The rear doors come off easy. There is a screw in the handle area, and then on the side of thepanel awsell as the bottom.
I am running Alpine Type R components up front and in the rear. You will need an amp for any good set of speakers... The best HU's out will only put 18-20 watts RMS to your speakers.
If you are looking to keep the power in the head unit, I would run some alpine type S coaxials or even some polk DB series. The polks are cheaper, but the alpines produce a wider frequency range.

I believe the polk DBs are what I'm running off the factory head right now. They sound very good, especially for running off the crappy factory unit, nice and clear. I thought I blew them a couple of times but they still sound fine, just had it too loud at the time. So they'll take a decent bit of abuse it seems, my only complaint about them is I'd like them to have a bit more bass.

the problem with the DB's is the frequency response... I had them in my Jeep liberty. My type R coaxials in my cavalier (running off the same head unit) had a lot better low end response.
The polks are a dual purpose speaker. It was polks answer to the void in quality speakers in the marine market. Now they have the MOMO's in marine, but when the DB's came out, they were polks only marine geared speaker. they are no longer marketed that way.
Rich, if you are looking for bass out of 12 watts... you need to seal your doors off and make the airspace around 1.15-1.5 cubic feet. (good luck with that. lol!)
easy fix is to amp them or put in a nice aftermarket head unit that will put closer to RMS power to them. (those DB's want 35-50 watts RMS)

the pillar plastic piece is begging for tweeters, and so is the section above the rear passenger seat belt. I want some separates, the range isn't horrible for stockers but I want my highs and some slightly harder hitting lows - but I sure don't want to remove what little space the truck has by putting in a box. Door speakers will be fine. Somone have separates that they are willing to show a pic of?
I had Infinitys in mine when I upgraded my stereo.....got too annoying/loud thoughsince they put out the highs real good (weren't too great on the bass response though) AND I had tweeters too. So I just kept the tweeters & then went back to the stock speakers
A good/easy place for the tweeters is the door panel....the same location that they would've come from the factory (with the upgraded stereo):

I don't know if anyone else had the same problem, but the 6.5" Infinitys that I had......I had to screw them into the black plastic factory speaker adapter plate.
The speakers were too small for the door & then the plastic brackets from Crutchfield didn't fit either so I just unscrewed the stock speaker from the plastic plate & then screwed the new speaker to that plate's trim& then put it on the door.

I will get a pic of my type R components... The only problem with putting the tweet in the Pillar is our doors have a huge "plug" running from the door to the cab. Unless you run a separate wire, you would have to find the mating wires on both sides of the plug... It was a PITA with a D.M.M. set on continuity
