Default Pull a boat

Will my factory bumper hitch on my 2006 Dakota be able to pull a 16' boat?

It's rated for 2000 lbs, so provided your 16' boat is under that, I wouldn't worry.
I have a 14' rowboat that I tow with absolute ease, as if it wasn't even there. All I did was install a 1 3/4" ball onto my bumper and a T-connector light connection.
If your boat is closer to 2000 lbs, I would get that reciever that simply bolts on.

It should be able to do it easily unless its an expecially heavy boat. Is it Aluminum or fiberglass or something else?

Mine tows my 13' Whaler type boat fully loaded with fuel and gear easily. But, remember when you look at the weight of the boat that you aren't towing that. You have to include everything from the trailer weight to fuel to equipment to bait....EVERYTHING. According to numbers the Dak will pull alot of things, before you add in everything else. Then again, I saw someone pulling a 26' Center Console withdual outboards the other day....behind a Honda Ridgeline. After talking to him about the fishing I told him he should go back to the Honda dealer and demand they give him the rest of his truck.

these bumper hitches are very stout. when you look at it, it seems redundant to put a reciever on there. I got stuck muddin and my boy pulled me out by the bumper hitch. We had to jerk on th truck pretty hard to get it out, well over 2,000lbs. I guess it's obviously good enough for the weight of the truck.

The biggest thing is the shank of the ball is smaller and cant handle the weight. my valley hitch bolted on to the stock one and now it can handle 6,000lbs since it has the right equipment.

Can i call you when my 6000lb trailer tears the hitch off my truck and kills someone? just kidding. i would use the bumper hitch, but it's too high.

lol nope sorry

I added it on mine and I pull my 6x12 enclosed haulmark trailer gross on it is somethere around 4-5,000 right now. It has an engine driven air compressor, my rolling tool box, 3 welders, workbench that streches the whole side full, 2 pairs car ramps, spare engine, engine hoist, engine stand, etc...

Ive used it to haul a bunch of things
