Anyone have any experience with trailers?
I know this has little to do wit Dakotas.
I just purchased a small trailer, 4x6 enclosed.
I need to put bigger wheels under it. does anyone have any experience with lifting or replacing wheels on a trailer?
Thanks for any input.

Why do you need bigger wheels Ground clearence? is it a solid axle with leaf springs? I wouldnt advise puting blocks on a trailer to lift it, if you must put bigger tires on it I would do it right by removing the fenders, putting the bigger tires on then replacing the fenders with bigger ones for the tires or putting the old ones back on a bit higher so the tire fits without hitting at max travel.
I need the clearance because my truck is way taller than my trailer. I was hoping that I could just throw bigger tires under it! This summer is going to be Sweet!
You don,t need bigger tires, you need to adjust the trailer hitch so your trailer tows level. You do not need the trailer at the same height as your truck. There are many different trailer hitch parts available at Walmart, Pep Boys, Auto Zone, Uhaul ,Draw tite etc.
You may not be able to see your trailer behind you. If that is the problem they sell fiberglass wips that may attach to the ends of your trailer so you know were it's at.

It is pretty easy to put the axle under the leaf springs instead of having the leaf springs underthe axle. I see many trailers here that have this done for added ground clearance. If you don't need the ground clearance just get an adjustable trailer hitch so you can tow your trailer level. Those enclosed trailers kill your gas mileage and the lower you can keep it the better your mileage will be.
Well this trailer is going to be hauling my camping equip. So a little ground clearance will do some good.
I am going to have to get a hitch here soon anyway. Might as well just keep it where its at.
Although bigger tires would make it look cooler!

i have seen alot of people cut the back half off of the same style truck they have an make a trailer out of it. they look good. also make sure you dont go to big with the rims and tires. the trailers are built just right to with stand the rocking back and forth while driving. you may lose some control with bigger tires.
Here is another question, if I were to put a hitch on do I really have to remove the bumper?
That seems like a little much work for me in my muddy driveway.

No you shouldn't have to remove the bumper, the trailer hitch I put on my dakota mounted right to the frame with out takine off the bumper. Just make sure you get the right hitch for the same year make and model of your truck
