Don't know that you have much of a choice in the matter...new or used parts are based on whatever policy the insurance company has in place.

Look into State laws to see if they are required to replace with new or used parts. If there is no state law, and the vehcile is over a year old, then you will probably get used parts....

Them pictures are something, I am sure they dont do justice to the real deal. Just out of curiousity do you have any underbody pictures of the impact area?

 

I wanted to get some with my digital when I was at the body shop yesterday, but they have the cars parked so close together I really couldn't get down in there to get any.

Anything in particular you would want to see?

Nope nothing in particular, just curious how bad it is underneath, I mean its definently a hardcore hit which is bad enough, just curious.

 

You can probably fight them for new parts. I would untill you have no choise

 

The only thing I'm fighting for at this point is to get it totaled. Auto insurance sucks in general, but with the laws we have in NJ it sucks even worse. The body shop says it's pretty bad and it could be a toss up between them totaling it or wanting to repair it. They said they'll do whatever they can to help with getting it totaled.

Lghtngblt, The rear drivetrain and suspension damage is pretty extensive. Just from me crawling around I can see the left axle tube is bent, both springs are shot, spring mounts on the frame are tweaked on both the left and right side, both shocks are shot, brake lines/mounts/hardware are bent snapped or destroyed, anti-sway bar and mounts are shot, the driveshaft is more than likely bent from digging into the pavement when it came off the trans, and the frame may be bent because the bed now sits crooked to the back of the cab. The back of the trans is leaking but I can't see if anything broke or if it's just the rear seal. The fuel tank casing appears to have a wrinkle in it from the driveshaft hitting it. I don't know if there is any damage to the left front suspension since it took a shot too. The rim and tire don't look bad, but it took a pretty good whack from her left front before she gouged down the side of the truck and impacted the left rear. Anyone who has seen the a-arms in our trucks knows they don't look that stout.

damn man that sucks to see happen.Get a lawyer if you don't feel your being treated fairly. Thats what I did here in IL and he insurance was more than happy to settle after I asked for morre than the car was worth.
