Paint for the grill?
Anyone know what paint is best used if you wanna paint your grill black? I know alot of people have said you should get it done by a professional, but Im just wondering if anyone knew what kind of paint would work well. Krylon stuff maybe? I mean the grill isnt real chrome anyway but plastic so yeah. thanks ^_^
Hrmm... yup, DIY must look like ****... cuz I Krylon Fusioned (as a primer) then DupliColor painted it flat black, then hit it with a clear coat layer...
And I've been asked by tons of pepole which body shop did mine...

or you can use an air compressor and an HVLP gun... most auto store carry quarts of paint... you just need a mixing cup and the right thinner/hardeners.
But I would use dupli-coat. Thats what I would do personally. and lots of fine sand papers

someone over in my side of the forum did this....just a week or so ago. he took it off, taped it, and rattlecanned it, and it came out pretty sweet. if i could find it, i'll come back and post it for ya.

i painted mine black with por 15. they have some pre paint **** for painting chrome, but i did not use it( i have heard it works great, but my paint house was out and i lack kpatience). i just sanded with 320 or 600 until the shine was gone. i did not use primer but i did wash and dry, then apply xylol. then painted it with a hvlp gun. it lasted for two years without chips. i am currently painting it the same color as the truck. i sanded like hell to remove the por15 but it stuck except for the edges, where i have used duplicolor self etching primer. it seems to hold up well.
good luck. if you screw it up it is easy to do again. although like Frenchy stated it is really all in the prep. dont get too agressive with the sanding because the copper under neath does not hold paint as well. italso adds time to fill the gouges with putty or high fill primer.
