Default New Brakes & Rotors

Since I think the stock brakes on the Dakota are really bad I decided to upgrade to a set of EBC Sport Rotors and EBC Greenstuff 7000 brake pads. I had never worked on brakes before and the process was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be. I have about 52K miles on the '06 Dak and the brakes were squealing already due to the mirror like finish that had formed so I would have had to get them grinded down so the noise would stop.

The only trouble I had was fitting the new pads in and this problem was easy to fix by simply using a screwdriver to clean the slots in the caliper where the ends of the brake pad slide into. Once I got all the rust and junk out of there the pads went right in. It was also a bit of a pain to take the rotors off since they had got rusted on, but a little work with a hammer did the trick. I put a bit of anti-seize on the rusted part of the axel that touches the rotor so hopefully next time the rotor comes off easier.

Obviously my new brakes and rotors are far from being broken in right now, but I already notice a difference, I can't wait to see what they're like after I put 1,000 miles on them. I think this is an upgrade that is definitly worth the cost of $300.

Has anyone else done this upgrade to their dak? How do you like the end result?

Default RE: New Brakes & Rotors

I haven't upgraded mine yet but I plan to amongst many other planned upgrades to my boring ST. I think mine probably need resurfaced because they are squeeling when its dry outside and its really annoying. I have 28k miles on mine, you would think brakes would last abit longer before doing this. I don't think dodge is very good when it comes to stock brakes on trucks because I had a 92 and 95 dakota before and the stock brakes were crud on them too (given they were much older) but you would think an 06 would have better brakes, or maybe 4-Wheel discs instead of drums.
