Brake shoe problem/question
I have a 2005 Dakota 4x4.
I went to the brake shop this morning to get me pads and shoes done. They tell me they can get aftermarket, thermoquiet, pads. But there are no aftermarket shoes. They can only get them through the dealership. The pads were $80, but the shoes will be $185. Are there any after market shoes for Dakotas? I go through them about once every 6 months. I would hate to pay that much for them.
Also, they told me that they thought that 4 wheel disc brakes were standard on Dakotas, and that I must have gotten one of the odd ball ones. That there aren't enough like mine to make it profitable to make aftermarket shoes. Any ideas? Thanks

Phil, you don't have an oddball dakota. The 2005+ dodge dakotas have drums in the rear.
As far as aftermarket drums, its crazy to think that they are not available yet. Did you check online? This truck has the same problem with shocks and struts, there are no aftermarket options.

Typical hack aftermarket shop...lol this must be an oddball...of course chrysler would design a different rear end just for your truck...thats the funniest thing I've heard in a while
Monkeywrench The brake shop I use doesn't carry parts in stock. The always have them delivered from a parts store. I know they use several. I'm not sure how many he called, but it was more than one. I have checked online and can find them...but it ain't easy. And not the thermoquiets that I want. I thought it was odd. It's not like they only made 10 Dakotas. You would think that as many as they make/made, there would be plenty of aftermarket parts. It doesn't make sense to me.
It also doesn't make sense that they thermoquiet has pads for them, but not shoes. I checked online at Wagners webpage, they make the thermoquiets, and they don't have shoes listed either. I can find oem shoes for $160. I can find other brands, that have shoes, for around $60 or so. But I'm not sure how good they are.
...do you tow a lot? i cant see any possible way to go through shoes in 6 months.
