Default Anybody ever cleaned out a headlight?

I had a bulb explode this morning. Brand new one too. Yes, I was careful not to touch it, and I even wore nitrile gloves, so I'm not sure what happened.

Has anyone ever rinsed out a headlight, with water, brake cleaner etc.

As an aside, it was a Wagner packaged bulb, that was actually a Phillips bulb, identical to the factory installed one.

thanks,
Guy

They would likely come apart, with some patience (I have little), and some heat. A couple years back, guys were taking their Bandit motorcycle headlights apart to clean out this black grundge that would build up, or to modify the crappy projectors. If you look closely, you can find where the clear lens is clipped into the black body of the light unit. The "cement" that they use to bond them will sometimes soften with heat, and you could potentially get it apart. Probably best done on a spare for practice.

Mine is going to stay ugly. it has these kind of smoke stars inside now, and a couple of pieces of broken bulb wedged where I can't shake them out. They are pretty pitted up anyway.

Had a bulb blow up in my old car, pull out the headlight and shake it till the crap falls out if you're lucky.

I am just guessing that we cant pull our lights apart... if we could, we would all have different colors than the ugly grey thing...
When I had my Integra many people were taking the headlights apart to retrofit HID's. Very similar construction to ours, trick was to bake them in the oven for a while to soften the glue. This is what I'm taking about here: http://www.team-integra.net/sections...ArticleID=1061. Looks like the same thing could be done on ours.

I gotta finish thinking it up, lol. Just something I've been kicking around a bit.
