RE: Equipping to Tow
I am getting ready to tow my Wife's straus on a tow dolly from Missouri to North Carolina (950 miles). Total Weight being towed is 3400lb plus whatever we throw in it (maybe 500 lbs more). I have full faith in the truck, but i curious as to kind of mpgs i might get. Anyone else towed a vehicle this way? The driving will be all interstate with a few miles (90-100) through the mountains between TN and NC.
I have the towing package, 4.7l, auto tranny and 3.92 gears. Without any load on flat highway i get almost 21 mpg.

When I've towed my '53 Chevy PU on a car trailer, I get 13-14 mpg. The load is closer to 5000 lbs. I have 4.7l, auto, tow pkg., 3.55 gears. The truck towed to load with no problems of any kind. I'm going to change to 3.92 gears when I get ready to start towing my 6000 lb toy hauler RV.

I dont know if they are still running the special but JC whitney was selling curt mfg. class 3 hitches with a free ball mount for 69 bucks. http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/I...36278311757161 I bought one and installed (only had to drill 2 holes...installed in about 30 minutes), then bought an apater from NAPA to wire up lights (around 20 bucks), i havent been towing anything real heavy, but i have been towing a flat bed trailer with about 3,000 lbs on rock on it with absolutly no problems. (2005 4.7 qaud cab dak) Should be able to tow anything you might need to tow in a pinch....hope this helps!

I have a V6? I thought I had a three lobe rotary.
As previously stated, I have no trailer or anything that rides on a trailer. Just curious as to what was needed to get a bone-stock truck ready to tow safely.

What you need to tow is a towhitch, and wiring harness...and something really light, since you only have the V6...Maybe a bicycle, or refrigerator...nevermind that's prob WAY to heavy for the V6. Even a rotary couldn't handle that.
Maybe you should just trade it in for a V8?
