good luck, it can be done like ericemery says,
the biggest hurdle will be the sheer size, you will want to do a bit of practice first for sure

you could also,
build a sub frame out of mdf boards,
coat the fleece with resin, so it absorbs into the fabric,
then resin and lay your mat, smaller torn chunks will add strength instead of large pieces,
then resin and chicken wire, then resin several times.
you can resin and mat the underside so as to add strength without thickening the top.
http://www.mcmaster.com has seals you can use along the edge, my buddy used them when he built his false bed floor

friends will help

Alright...gonna move into phase 1 of my custom built tonneau soon. Thinking about going with a plywood top, and stretching some kind black waterproof vinyl across the top. Operation: Hope I Don't F*ck My Truck Up is moving forward.

EDIT: OOH! OOH! I could even do like a killer bee thing and have it popping out of the vinyl, centered on the cover. That'd be wicked...with LED lights for eyes! But first I'll see if I can even make the damn cover.

You'll definitely want to use marine-grade plywood if you want it to hold up. It's decently heavy stuff though.

Working at West Marine i can tell you marine board will be expensive as hell... For the size you need probablt around 300 dollars... Resin andhardener and all that at a marine store you couldset you backeasily 200 bucks...
