HIGHLY Disappointed...
superdak, your truck is far from stock...lol...your's can really race. The rest of us, who either mod for tow/haul power or don't mod at all, can't race too much. It's a slow truck when you're accelerating...but the acceleration doesn't drop off much when you're loaded. It's nice in that respect...and it's what it's made for...

now thats weird. i took a saturn sky turbo the other night, light to light, after all was said and down, the guy rolled down the window and said...MAN YOUR TRUCK IS FAST. i said thank you and off i went

Dont worry even though its not the best platform to race on, its still a platform and if you reach for the stars you can achieve your dreams!!

Like when Im going to beat the Supra and 350 in January oH mAN@@!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I dont understand lol. You spent quite a bit on the truck no? 20k could of gotten you a great used car if you were interested in racing. This isnt exactly a platform worth racing. In fact, its one of the slower trucks around. The V6 is a joke when it comes to acceleration, and the V8 is "ok" from the factory. Still pretty weak.
You could have gotten a SRT-4 for 15k-ish.
Used 350Z for 20k-ish.
Mazda speed 3 for like 23k-ish new.
Its towing and load capacity that give us the bragging rights. We are the class leaders. Speed......eh..
It's like the guys over in the 3rd gen ram section, they think there trucks fly because its got a "HEMI". That engine design really doesnt mean anything today. The Ram with the 5.7l is ok, but nothing crazy. Acura MDX beats it in the quarter. Not to mention near anything else thats not a truck lol.

*EDIT* Call me old fashioned but I prefer american muscle to ricers... <3 the sound of a V8 (apparently even if it's slow...haha)

Got the truck for 17k (highest i could have comfortably went), my grandpa worked at chrysler for 30 years (so mopar is in the blood), i love trucks (and traded in my ram for the dak), i think neons are gay, don't really like 350z's to be honest

Yeah, as you could guess, I'm a Dodge guy myself..
The neon srt-4 isnt rice though cmon. It's like the 1 of the few gems pumped out by chrysler today. What you need and none of the crap you don't need. You could get them with hardly any options. That car was more muscle car spirited then most of chryslers other junk. If you put 4 grand into an srt-4 neon, you would have one hell of a street car. If you put the same 4 grand into a dakota, the results will not be the same.. And the 350Z was just an example, but it's a great option for the price.
Dodge isnt exactly the truck it used to be... unfortunately, it's less american muscle then ever..
If I had it my way, they would still be building a truck more like the 1940's power wagon that came into production from the WWII line. Now thats a pickup

I didnt mean to pick on the 3rd gen dakota. After all its what i drive, I am just saying, its like a no win situation as far as the money that needs to be dumped into it, just to perform at the level an entry level decent sports car would.
But Its still a super capable pickup, best in class IMO, but for other things.
I believe I'm just gonna toss some mud tires and decent rims on mine and call it a day. About the neon, I agree that it has serious potential...i just can't get past the "neon gayness" stereotype.
i bought my truck for one specific reason, build it up and race it. i could have bought a chevy s-10 and put a nice stroker motor in it but they are everywhere. its not everyday you seen one of our trucks at the staging lanes blowing nitrous fumes up over the hood. i wanted to be different and i am happy with my results. its funny looking over at the next guy while you are pulling on him and seeing his eyes wide open and the fear he has to deal with
