The Vtechs do cover the whole taillight. Here's a picture of them on mine, only difference is mine are painted:

Yeah at about 4500rpms the otherbrake valves open up and your are gone!

 

Just an update on the Vtech tail light covers...
I emailed Vtech and sent them pictures of what I had. (See my first post)

I received an email reply, from the CEO- Dan Floyd

Thank you for catching our mistake. The operators trimmed those too
short. Please reply with your address and we will send you a
replacement set.
