Finally got My truck!!!
Your mpgs won't suck anymore than the rest of us. I haven't heard anything with an HO say that their's is extra worse than a non-HO. What's going to suck is the premium gas. That extra .20 or .30 is going to hurt...especially if prices spike again (which they hopefully won't do!)
Well... welcome home Wyatt, here is your daily fix of "You're Gay" reading from lghtngblt02... lol
Baracis, that was just a tad too much thinking on yoru part, you are gonna hurt yourself, quit it, and I am sorry Wyatt, you just leave things wide open for a smart **** comment
Lol no. You just find the gay in every detail of life.
Got an '05 quad cab 4x4 with the 4.7 HO V8. Picked it up Saturday. Now it just needs a good wash and wax...Any volunteers...Didn't think so.... Whats the difference in the high output engine? Just noteced today that it said that on tailgate... Loven the truck, can't wait to start getting some mods.... Heres a pic. I think the color is molten red...

Welcome back man! Saw an old post of yours the other day and was wondering what happened to you.
As far as I know HOs require premium gas. MPGs should be very comparable to the reg 4.7L. I been getting around 18 city and 22 highway. I read a review on the HO and if I remember right the mpgs for it were something like 15 city and 20 highway, but what do you expect, more horses require more feed.

Runs like a six on regular and milage goes down so don't waste your money!
I avg 17 city 21 HWY, but then I stick my foot in it every chance I get!

Felt like I was in the twilight zone, kept getting "403" "FORBIDDEN"
even when I tried to PM a MODERATOR.

Here are the differences with the HO motor. The power increase is not huge, but the build quality is supposed to be quite impressive....I read that as built well for power adders like superchargers or nitrous. That still does not make me feel better about the cold start diesel noise.
1. Block - Detonation sensor bosses in the valley
2. Camshaft - custom profile lobes (designed for increased performance)
3. Connecting rods - modified, with floating wrist pins (vs pressed-fit pins in standard V8)
4. Crankshaft - forged steel (vs cast iron in standard V8)
5. Crankshaft damper - unique to H.O.
6. Cylinder heads - different shaped combustion chambers (for improved airflow). The letters "H.O." are cast on the front end of the heads.
8. Fuel injectors - higher flow (+3.3 lb/hr)
9. Intake manifold - modified (shorter runners)
10. Intake - low-restriction intake system (different resonator, air filter, air filter hose and housing)
11. Knock sensors - two, stereo
12. Main bearings - tri-metal (vs bi-metal in standard V8, designed specifically for the HO engine)
13. PCM calibration - unique programming
14. Pistons - dome shaped for increased compression ratio
15. Spark plugs - platinum tipped
16. Valves - unique exhaust valves (same lift as standard V8)
17. Valve springs - upgraded valve springs (intake & exhaust. Larger diameter wire and more coils)
