the neutral safty switch has nothing to do with moving the lever to and from park. it only has to do with starting the engine. there is a recall on the tranny. inside is a little metal rod that if it has moved out of place will cause the lever to get stuck. this neds to be addressed by the dealership. look it up on the recall forums. it says if the part moves it will cause the lever to jump out of gear or get stuck in gear. most people that have had this problem, say that the part sliped and there truck went into gear and rolled away. yours is the opposite.

Just recently after parking, I returned, started the truck.... but found that I could not move the shifter (i.e. stuck in park). After a few seconds of WTF??? I realized the steering wheel was under enough pressure from my wheels being turned, that it would not allow me to shift until I turnned hard enough on the steering wheel to release the pressure.

Hope it's that simple.

TECHNICALLY, a "neutral safety switch" is used on a MANUAL transmission to make sure that the clutch pedal is depressed before attempting to start the engine. a "shift interlock switch" aka brake switch is used on automatics.

Default Stuck in Gear

The exact same thing happened to me on my 01 Dak before I traded it in.
I had to push the truck back and forth as I tried to get it out of gear.. I found out after I got it to the dealer that there was a recall on the shifter. They fixed it for no charge and it didn't happen after that.
