Default Dash Squeak

Guys,

Need your help desperately! First let me preface by saying I did the search and found a couple of posts related to this but did not resolve my issue.

I have an '06 Quad cab 3.7L and have an annoying dash squeak that's been so elusive. It makes this squeak noise when you start out from a stop a lightly apply throttle. Sometimes you can hear it as well when your coming off the gas but usually at lower speeds.

I took it to the dealer and they claim that the aftermarket wiring in the dash(for power look lock kit I personally installed) is the source of the squeak and they can not help me. Even though I'm extremely savvy at wiring and securing my wiring(I do this type of stuff for a living) I gave them the benefit of the doubt and verified everything I did and isolated my wiring and am confident my wiring is not the source of this squeak.

The sound sure seems like its coming from the top/center defrost vent area. No matter what I try I cannot pinpoint the source. I have yet to be able to stop this noise no matter what pressing/pushing/ tweaking I try. I've removed the center stack bezel and it seems like the noise is louder without the bezel but no matter where I place my hand on inside components I cannot zero in on source.

I'm beginning to wonder if I'm being fooled and the source is not even where I think its coming from. I have poor hearing in my right ear so sound location can be tough for me. My wife cannot help me either with noises as shes not bothered by the noise. Is it possible like one other thread mentioned its on the other side of the firewall? That poster had an issue with heater lines but I had no luck there.

I'm going to give this one more college try before seeking another dealer to look into it.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I have the exact same problem...and cannot find a solution. Mine sounds like a 12V relay is clicking on and off at a very fast pace. Let me know if you find something before I do.

can you identify "what type" of squeak it is, such as a metal-on-metal or plastic-on-plastic sound?
My dash doesn't have such a squeak, but years ago I had a POS Grand-Am where the dashboard was a complete squeak-fest. turned out it was all of the plastic parts rubbing together within the many pieces that make up the dash.
So - that being said, maybe it would help if you could identify what is sounds like versus where it's coming from...

Default Sound

If I had to guess I'd say it sounds more like a plasticy ticking sort of noise. Short of removing the entire dashboard I'm running out of ideas.

if that's the case then you should look for any loose/moveable plastic part that is rubbing up against a fixed plastic part, such as the rim of the vents behind the bezel, or maybe even something behind the radio.
That would probably drive me nuts as well, so I'm sure I would rip out the radio, vent work, anything i could to figure out what's going on in there. after you get everything out, drive around and see if it continues.
plus if it sounds like plastic then at least you narrowed it down to the inside of the dash, not the other side of the firewall

Default I give up

After another two hours out in the hot FLA sun pulling the center stack and radio out I cannot isolate the source of the rattle/Squeak/vibration noise. I dropped the truck off at another Dodge dealer and am hopeful they can resolve this. Aside from this issue I really like the truck. I'll hopefully have answers come Friday.

I had a squeak also it was the upper left screw that held the instrument cluster in the dash was loose. I had it to the dealer 3 times and they could not find it. I found it myself one afternoon.
Good luck I feel the pain those noises drive me nuts!

Default Dash Squeak FIXED!!!!!

Wahoooooo!!!! Dealer Two resolved my issue!!! I dont know if this is acceptable but I have to give special thanks to Ferman Dodge in Lutz FL. They resolved my Dash squeak issue that was driving me nuts! The service advisers where awesome and they even told me what the mechanics said about the issue(he said this would have drove him nuts too if he had to hear that every ride).

My issue was a line was rubbing on the evaporator coil inside the dash. Apparently he had my entire dash apart to resolve. This line was apparently adjusted/re-routed and secured according to the adviser.

Truck is as quiet as ever now and I love it!

Thank you to all you guys that offered suggestions. Thinking is the hardest job and for you all to stop and offer your thoughts means alot. YOU GUYS ROCK!

Default No charge

Yep, warranty repair! They noticed my aftermarket remote door lock wiring but this obviously had nothing to do with this issue.

I have found my new Dodge Dealer. This is one impressive dealer in performance and appearance. Modern, comfortable, donuts, beverages, clean and friendly.
