Default Recall Question on balljoints...

Hey guys, I have an 06 Dakota with the 4.7 V8. I'm hearing sometimes a popping type sound from the front when I turn. This is not all the time and it's mainly when I turn going very slowly over maybe a small bump or when backing out of the driveway in the early morning. I heard there was a balljoint problem/recall. Could this be the problem and is there a recall? It sounds like it's coming from the balljoint area. THanks.

In 2004 there was an investigation that lead to a recall for poor quality sealed ball joints in the front end of the Durango and the Dakota. Most all ball joints in the last Gen dakota wear out early. Most owners replace there OEM joints with MOOG brand greaseable joints, to get around the problem.

The third gen Dakota 2005-2008 doesnt have a recall for bad ball joints, but a few members have had to replace some already. Time will tell.

there is a problem with the ball joints. i had to have my whole frt end replaced because of them. what happens is the ball joints are riveted into place. when they break free from the rivets, they start to move around in the control arm. that is the popping noise you hear. everytime you hear the pop the ball joint is wearing farther into the control arm. mine were so bad, i need both control arms replaced also. upper and lower. get it into the dealership soon. wont cost you anything.

Why will it not cost me anything? Is it only if I'm still under 36,000 miles? If so I'm screwed I got 58,000 miles.
