Default took a hit

nothing to do with the truck or dodge in general. was looking at my 401k portfolio, within the past 2 weeks i dropped a little over 18000.00 because of the economy. in away i am glad i paid cash for the truck. thats one bill i dont have to worry about. but dam, what happens when sts comes out with a turbo set up for our daks and i need some quick cash. oh well guess i wont be retiring at 55, gonna have to wait until i am 67.anyone else have a portfolio?

let's not talk about it. The past 5 days have not been good. But I am optimistic. I am not touching anything. I cashed out on a few stocks a few months ago and I am glad I did.

My kids 529 for college? Thank God she is 3 and not 13 or we would be in a world of hurt.

However, things will turn around. If you have cash, hang onto it. If you are in a 401K, diversify. That is what has helped me. If you are under 40, you should have about 60-70% stocks with 30-40% cash and bonds. If you are over 40, less stocks and more bonds and cash. This is a good rule of thumb.

But this market will turn around folks.

I haven't looked at mine. I'm sure I will be shocked when I get my quarterly statement, but I don't plan on retiring for 10 years. The market will fully recover in two years or less; it always does. Now is the time to invest when prices are low as long as you won't need the money for a couple of years. Long term investing and diversifying are my habits. I also invest 40% - 50% in international mutual funds; other countries such as China are in a major growth cycle.

Took about a $14k hit on my new statement. I am retired and don't want to go back to work....Maybe I could get one of those jobs with the multi-million $$ packages to go away....
