Question Front Brakes locking up

This has happened twice on my truck. Each time I was in stop and go traffic, but I didn't think I was using the brakes that much. Anyway, the first time the left front brakes seemed to lockup and over heat. I pulled over and they were very hot, and even smoking a little. I let them cool down, and didn't have another problem for months. Earlier this week I was again in some stop and go traffic, and the right front brakes did the same thing (didn't get as hot). Again I parked the truck and waited for them to cool off, and once they did everything seemed fine. In both cases the truck pulled very hard toward the side that was overheating.

I was just wondering if this has happened with anyone else?

Tom

hmmmm, nope not here...

Sounds like you have a caliper going bad and dragging on ya...that would cause the heat and the lockups you been experiencing. It would probably be more noticable the more you use it too

Slider pins may need lubrication/replacement. The seals may have cracked allowing moisture, rust, and seizure. Take it to a good shop, or plan to spend the day cussing, that's what I usually do with brakes. Which reminds me, who thought drum brakes were a good idea for the Dak. They can't possibly be that much cheaper to mass produce.

To be more precise, mprohr got it...

Yeah I agree with ya, I mean the rams have em, how much difference is there or work would there be to manufacture the ram brakes to be used on our trucks... I cant see that much, I am sure it would be just as much of a cost to do discs
